How much to convert to a Combi Boiler?

I moved into a new house last Nov in the middle of a cold spell so thought it prudent to have the central heating system re-commissioned and serviced by qualified engineers. One company refused to service it as the boiler is positioned under a kitchen conter in the corner.(Although I think it was more to do with it being last thing on a Fri afternoon.) Anyway after two or three days work my Central heating was back on line after £330 and a monthly fee of £30 to British Gas. I have never felt that the heat coming from all the radiators has been that great though.

In the last month they have been inundating me with calls telling me my boiler should be replaced as it is over 10yrs old and they have offered to make an appointment to give me a quote. I have asked to be taken off of their cals list as I refuse to deal with anyone cold calling as a point of principal.

If I was to change boilers I would prefer to install a Combi Boiler, therefore removing the immersion and water tanks. The present boiler is supplying 14 radiators and it is a 3 bed detached with a bathroom and downstairs shower room. Does anyone have an idea what changing to a combi boiler would cost me? Also are there any recommends for companies in the Glasgow region?

If your boiler is now working OK then there is no reason to change it. A modern condensing boiler will certainly be more efficient, but it will take you years to recover the investment in lower fuel bills.
If your boiler is a decent model (you didn't say) for which spares are available (as they should be) then find a decent local independent RGI to service it annualy, and ignore BG's efforts to make you replace it.
You would be looking at around £2000-ish to change it.

You will not recover the cost with the savings you make from a new boiler - it will need replacing before that could happen.
My non-condensing boiler was installed in the late 80's. Still works fine, cost me £35 for this year's service. I know it will die one day and cost me at least a few grand to install a new condensing one which will never pay for itself. Until then, I'll keep running it. If it outlives me, all the better!:)
