Grandmother's gift to 17- and 15-year-olds
My daughters are each being given £3,000 by their grandmother. Lucky things: i) for being my daughters; ii) for being gifted the dosh. I'll be setting up a mini-ISA for the 17-year-old. What's the 'equivalent' that I can do for the 15-year-old (16 next June). Regards to group.

Transfering to Halifax from Abbey?
Complicated and not sure if I can be bothered but... I have my cash ISA with Abbey at 4.9%. Halifax is the best buy now but I'm trying to work out what interest you lose during the transfer. Lets say you have £20K. At 4.9% that's £2.68 interest a day. £20K at 5% earns you £20 more in a year. That means that if you lost…

Yorkshire BS 'snowed under'
Hope this isn't another Abbey fiasco in the making. You would think that an institution which offers a market-leading rate would gear up for an avalanche of applications when all around are slashing rates. I opened an ISA with Yorkshire in August & got my smile ISA transferred to them on 13th Sept. rang them up today to…

Opening new halifax ISA to transfer First Direct
I have a First Direct ISA which I opened and filled this tax year. With the interest rate dropping soon, can I open a new Halifax ISA by transferring the funds from First Direct? or do I need to transfer the funds into an already existing ISA? i.e. will this contravene the cannot open more than 1 ISA in 1 year rule?

ISAs from previous years
There is a probably a very simple answer to these questions: (i) If you have an ISA account from a previous year, is it easy to transfer it - just remembered I had one with the Nationwide - and want to transfer it to somewhere with a better rate. (ii) Is it worth transferring between ISA accounts, i.e. two or three times a…

Fund supermarket recommendation?
I have an ISA with HSBC that I'd like to transfer to a fund supermarket, so I could easily switch funds when I want to. I am aware of Fidelity, Bestinvest/Cofunds, and Hargreaves Lansdown. Help with Mini Share ISA
Hello, I've already used my allowance for the Mini Cash ISA and I'm thinking about investing in a Mini Share ISA. Could you tell me, is it possible to invest in an all index tracker and self select individual shares in the same ISA? Also, when looking for an all index tracker, presumably they are all pretty much the same…

Halifax ISA Saver Direct
I'm about to transfer my IF ISA to the Halifax ISA Saver Direct account. I understand that you can only do business on this account over the phone or internet. help: investing into stocks and shares ISA
Hello All, I have not used all of my Shares and Stocks mini ISA of 4000 for this year – currently I’m paying only £50 towards this ISA (cash ISA is already fully utilized for 3k for this year). So, I would definitely consider investing into this S&S ISA for this year. My main considerations are – medium to high risk…

How do Accumulation Units work?
Some stocks and shares funds have accumulation units (basically they pay any share dividends back into the fund). Does anyone know how this is actually done? For example, I just closed down a fund and was expecting some accumulation units on top of its value, but there weren't any. Are accumulation units only given on a…

Uninvestability?
I'm usually pretty good with money, but in one area I have failed myself completely... I generally get a 3k mini cash ISA every year, but three years ago I put 7k in a stocks & shares isa from Barclays. I was attracted by the larger allowance, and had big plans to do some research and pick some good stocks... however the…

Virgin maxi ISA woes
I (naively?) put £7K into a Virgin maxi ISA (stocks and shares) in 2000. Since it is a tracker, the value instantly dropped and as of today has slowly worked itself up to £6,844. What agreat investment! (not) I have not had any other ISAs until this year, when I bought a £3K mini cash ISA. Is there anything I can do now…
