NEED NEW wc - existing one was from Bath Store
We need a new wc.. Complete unit. The existing unit came from Bath Store a few years ago and I seem to remember it was not a standard size. Would that make plumbing in a new one tricky? We should like one which is Victorian style with a lever and speedy refill between flushes. Anyone got any suggestions?

Property Boundary
Hi! I live in a row of three houses. We each have a front garden. One of our neighbours has claimed a chunk of our front garden as they claim they have the land up until their drainpipe (their drainpipe comes about a metre into our front garden). Is this true? We are in rented accommodation so neither of us own this land…

Height of an extension - does a single storey always have to start from original ground level?
I have hunted high and low for 100% clarification of these answers and this is my last resort!!. Does a single storey extension (no other extension in existence) have to start from ground floor level of the original property or can it start 2m up using an existing window as the doorway that links the house with the…

Energy saving "flush"
Moved into a new place a few years ago, and ever since I find the flush on the toilet is rubbish. To put it bluntly, half of the time it does not flush the contents away. Most of the time you have to flush twice. After some investigation I found the toilet flush fitted was an energy saving flush. I would basically like to…

Builder wants 60% upfront to cover materials
I've had a quote of £6000 to refurbish 2 small bathrooms and an interconnected kitchen by this builder. This quote he agreed was inclusive of labour and materials however he now says in his contract that 6 days before the work begins he wants me to settle £3800 upfront to settle material costs. I thought he was going to…

Fixing cabinet to problem wall
I have just had my en suite toilet refitted using 7mm thick PVC panels for
the walls. Previously, the walls were tiled to waist height with
plasterboard above and I had expected the builder to remove the tiles
before applying the PVC panels. In the event, he applied the panels
over the tiles and, I presume, used battens…

Venting with large sliding doors at back of the house
I want to add a large sliding door panel to the back of the house. Either a 2 or 3 panel version. While this will give plenty of venting when I open up the doors, I feel nervous about the security especially if I am not in the room. Is there a way to incorporate standard windows into a sliding door panel so I can use…

Wheelie bin
I moved into a new house at the weekend, its a new build on a brand new estate. The house is shared ownership with Rotherham council, I'm paying mortgage on 25% and rent on the rest. I've looked on the council web site to try to order wheelie bins (general waste/ cardboard and glass/tin) and it says I have to pay over £20…

We're planning to get a bathroom renovated during some upcoming works, and I need some advice on layout. The room is 2323mm x 2200mm, and currently contains a square shower enclosure, a toilet, a ridiculously large vanity unit with sink and a towel radiator. We want to fit in a bath with shower over, a toilet, a sink unit…

Sloping floor in loft conversion
Hello I'm currently renting a house which was advertised as a 3 bed and has a loft conversion. I've noticed that the floor in the loft slopes, almost from the middle, down to the front and down to the back of the house. The slope begins directly above an internal wall on the 1st floor, with this being the highest point.…

Extending back garden (we own the land)
Hi, just after some advice really - We are in a row of 5 terraces houses with a lane behind. We own the land directly behind our house (according to deeds) and the land to the left behind our neighbours (they are the end of the terrace one side). We would like to extend our garden and eventually build a garage on the land…

Just had new roof placed and can see daylight?
Hi all, I recently had a new roof placed, it was completed only 2 days ago. I went up to my attic this morning and can see daylight. It seems to be present in several different areas. One was where the air vent is which I know is normal but there was some which seems to be coming through in-between the boards going up one…
