Objecting to Permitted Development under Neighbourhood Consultation
We have applied to take down our small current extension, built by the previous owners and replace with a 5m deep kitchen/diner under the current Permitted Development rules. It’s single storey, with a window and French doors. One neighbour, to the back of us, has objected based on privacy. Is this likely to be considered…

Conservatory Wall Footings Depth?
My brother in law had his conservatory footings dug out yesterday but for the full height walls they have dug down 39 cm with a shovel, i'm no expert but with a glass roof weight i thought it had to be minimum of 60 cm/ 600mm deep. He has been told by the builder that it is very solid soil and will only require to go down…

New UPVC door is smaller than specified on quote
Thought Id ask on here before I query this. New uPVC patio door delivered here today. The quote I have for it says "Actual Frame Size 2390 x 1980" which is good because the old door is 2390 wide. However the new door delivered is actually 2365, so about an inch narrower than the door size specified on the quote. They do…

Bulging strips of plaster?
We have lived in our new house less than a month and just last night I noticed some of the plaster on one of the internal walls is ‘bulging’ in vertical strips down the wall from ceiling to floor. I could have sworn it wasn’t like that when we moved in but I’m not sure. It’s not visible in daylight or when the light is on…

Wood stove beginner
I have recently had a new 5kw multi fuel stove fitted. I haven’t yet used it as need to wait 48 hours but am panicking a little bit. I know you are supposed to let the fire get up to a certain temperature, otherwise it creates creosote. However, i am confused about shutting the fire down when I go to bed. When do you close…

Help! Gross vacuum cleaner smell
Hi I moved into a new flat a month ago and quickly realized the vacuum cleaner the landlord left in the flat would be unusable. It was working fine but left the rooms smelling like someone had died in them. The smell was so bad I almost vomited. So I bought a brand new vacuum cleaner and forgot about the old one.…

Airbricks
How many airbricks should a house have? I ask because an intermittent problem smell is happening again in my house and it's pretty strong/not very nice. I'm wondering if that is the cause of it (ie inadequate number of air bricks). It's a 1970s bungalow, cavity wall (with insulation) made of those concrete block things and…
