Differing advice on moving meters
I am drowning in advice from so called 'builders' and don't know who to believe. I have got quotes for a garage conversion into part garage storage and part utility with downstairs toilet and shower. The problem seems to be the gas and water meter which are placed on either side of the walls. Some builders have said they…

mixing different thickness tiles
Can I use two type of tile with a different thickness on a wall? I have found a nice 'feature wall' tile that is 8mm thick, and a plain tile that is 6mm thick. I'd like to have the bottom part of the wall done with the 6mm thick tile, and the top with the thicker feature tile. Will this be ok? I am getting a tiler to do…

Is this residual water dangerous?
Could damp walls resulting from a pretty serious leak be dangerous to the flat below mine later? Let me explain: 3 weeks ago a leak was identified in my flat. The water was gushing out of a pipe in the water cylinder cupboard pretty seriously, and we’ve no idea how long it had been like that (tenants were on holiday).…

Advice on shower waste/trap needed
Hi there. Just refitting our ensuite and at the moment replacing shower tray and waste. The shower we had before had both a shower waste and a P trap on the pipework. The P trap was knackered (and very smelly). So this was chucked away along with the original shower waste. I have a new one that comes with the shower tray…

Solved:sudden low pressure from thermostatic showe
I've got a gravity fed/low pressure thermostatic shower. A couple of days ago the water pressure halved. I changed the shower hose and then the shower head but it didn't make any difference. I then googled and thought that it might be due to a leak in one of the tanks in the loft or the ball valve so was going to call a…

I have a Nilfisk pressure washer E145.3 there is a nozzle with a brass pipe from which the water comes. Joiner broke worktop by hacking grooves with a saw
Hello, We are having a kitchen fitted. We have an oak worktop and we asked our joiner if he could put in 5 drainer grooves next to the sink. He spent about 3 hours doing this then came to tell me his saw had broke while he was doing it and caused damage to the wood in the process which wasn’t repairable. I have therefore…

Outside Patio floor same level as kitchen floor
Hi guys, I have just bought a house and I have an outside patio around the back. We have noticed that the outside patio level is at the same height as the back door (double door). We have been told that the outside floor level should be at least 6 inches to reduce the risk of damp or flooding. Could anyone instruct us into…

Neighbour damaged my gate....I have CCTV evidence!
This morning we could not get out of the gate, it had been slammed and bent so is now stuck. We have CCTV and can see a neighbour lower down (whom I once had a row with 15 years ago) had forcefully closed it resulting in the damage. This is criminal damage, but it feels petty to go to the police and I don't want to cause…

Low Dynamic Water Pressure
I have static mains pressure of over 5 bar reduced to 3 bar by a pressure regulator. In the past the dynamic pressure has been steady at 3 bar with several sources drawing water at the same time (eg a shower, a tap and a toilet). Recently the dynamic pressure has fallen so that you notice a significant drop in flow with…
