Hi First admin not sure if this is the right section if not please move. They called the insurance to claim and they sent an assessor today. Basically the…

Taking down a shed. Is it a tough task?
Hey guys, I've got an old shed advertised on a recycling site. It's for free but whoever wants it has to dismantle it themselves. I've had a few enquiries and have made it clear that they have to take it down themselves which they all seem okay with. However, I just wondering if anyone has any experience with this and…

Flat - water tank responsibility
Hi folks, After a bit of advice. I own a top floor flat which has sole access to the loft space. In the loft are 3 cold water tanks, serving each flat. My neighbours tank is currently leaking into my home, and he is insisting it is my responsibility as owner of the top flat. The tank serves only his property. I have read…

Triple Glazing
I just wondered if any Forum users may have purchased, and had installed, A++ rated windows recently? I think that they might have to be triple glazed to obtain that rating. Naturally, I am just trying to get a heads up on likely costs for these windows. Thank you in advance

Water main or not leak
outside my property, just in the front garden (think terrace mini garden) there's the water main and I noticed it's slightly leaking; Not flooding but I can tell the soil is a little moist. My question is... is it mine to repair or the water company?

Cost of an architect?
Would anyone have an idea of the cost for drawings to be done for a dormer window? The house is a 4 storey Victorian semi-detached. It is just one room to allow the top floor to be reconfigured.

Buying materials for builder
Bit of a newbie at dealing with builders/decorators as I've only recently become a home owner. I want to swap my current carpet in the hallway/WC for laminate flooring, and get the bathroom carpet replaced with tiles. I plan to get someone in to do the work. My question is should I go ahead and purchase the laminate/tiles…

What is this in my attic?
Bit of a strange request, but can anyone help me identify what these strange looking 'flakes/shells' are? I found them in my attic and they are all over the floor. I found a number of blue bottles and a couple of hibernating wasps as well. Not sure if they are related.

Gas fire...Never been used..sell it?
Hi We've recently moved into a new home - it came with a gas fire (flueless, log burner type effect) in the living room. We've had a gas safe engineer in who said basically it hasnt been used because the room/space…

Roofing Felt not to the edge of the guttering
We have just had a roofer in to clean out the guttering & check the fascia's, he said the roofing felt isn't right to the edge of the guttering & cut about 30 cm short so water coming off the roof is sitting behind the fasica's instead of running in to the gutter. We would need to take a row of tiles off & add some…

House vibrating in high winds
We live in the top floor flat of a Victorian detached house. During the recent high winds I could feel the bed and sofa vibrate - a bit like when someone is 'jigging' their leg in bed/on the sofa. Is this normal? We are about to buy the freehold between all residents so I'm keen to know whether or not I should be worried.…

Replacement lock question (from a noob)
Hi, I'm fairly new to dealing with locks, beyond replacing a latch barrel now and then. I recently purchased an ex council flat and need to replace one of the locks. On my front door, there are three locks but I was only given sets of keys for 2 of them. They are (1) some sort of special security key night latch (pretty…
