What is this in my attic?

Bit of a strange request, but can anyone help me identify what these strange looking 'flakes/shells' are? I found them in my attic and they are all over the floor. I found a number of blue bottles and a couple of hibernating wasps as well. Not sure if they are related.

They're birch seeds. You must have a tree nearby.

Also just found this (about the size of a tennis ball), hanging from the roof. Related to the shells? Wasp nest?

It always helps to put something in for scale, but they look like catkin pieces from a birch tree. They're seeds.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Looks Wasp-y. Possibly dead. Or a ghost will pop out of it :eek:
Seriously this stuff is too spooky! We bought ours without looking up there, and still haven';t been up there
my mum told me we might find a tiny shoe... as it's an old house, they used to put them in the loft to keep away witches. that was enough to stop me going up there!0 -

In the wind. Roofs are open to ventilation, not sealed but you may have a tear in the roof felt or soemthing.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Terrible photo. A wasps nest has quite a distinct pattern on them. Google it.
It could be a fungus too. Water ingress....
Can you not use the zoom - I wonder if the white fluff in the corner is cobweb or actually signs of rot if it is wet.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
