Siemens thermostat help?

Morning. Our central heating is controlled by a Siemens rdj10rf going to a rcr10433 receiver. We have had issues with the controller before but the last three mornings, the receiver has been flashing red yet the controller appears to be working fine. it even goes off during the morning and comes back on in late afternoon as per its settings, overnight is the only issue?
I can't see any obvious reason why this is happening. Has anyone experienced similar problems or can you point me to a site/forum that might help?
I suspect both need replacing but I don't want to do that if the problem is elsewhere.
Thanks

  • Have you replaced the batteries already? It may be that the batteries are running low and when they get cold during the night they don't give enough power for the rf signal.

The batteries (well the connection to the batteries) have been a constant issue with the thermostat, but this is different. The thermostat appears to be on, hasn't lost time (so didn't power down) and was working perfectly but the receiver was flashing red and the boiler hadn't come on?
  • The batteries may have enough power to keep the thermostat on but the rf signal may become so weak it isn't detected by receiver. Just pop a fresh set of batteries in and see if the problem is still there.

thanks, i'll give it a go, although even with fresh batteries ive had problems with the unit.
I'll swap it for another anyway i think, just wanted to see if there might be a secondary issue.

According to the manual there is a battery low warning symbol. Is that showing? If you follow this link and go to page 6, it shows various lights, flashing/constant and what they mean.

Right, came home, the boiler didn't come on in the afternoon which is a first. Changed batteries in thermostat and reset, stayed on for a couple of hours then it's off again. Flashing red again. So this is just getting worse.
Gonna have to call someone out now.
  • I've just caught it failing, the boiler pressure isn't too high (one and a half bar). Am I safe in saying it's a problem with this thermostat and receiver?

When you change the batteries, do you reset both the stat and the receiver?

Thanks for the link, can't follow all of that but when it's off it's just flashing red, suggesting manual override according to that link?
I presume that means something outside the receiver is turning it off, it's not us so I'm guessing there is a fault in the boiler and therefore I'm calling someone out.
Interestingly having reset the receiver last evening it completed its timed period last night and the receiver was working when I went to bed, this morning it's come on as usual. I don't doubt it'll go off again but it suggests to me that the boiler is doing something.
    Thanks for your time
  • So you have a faulty stat or receiver or it it being effected by an outside source & you are blaming the boiler ummmm interesting
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
