Duresta sofas
So on my quest for new sofas I happened upon Duresta sofas. Two sofas per display were £5000!!! Pick your fabric the sales man told me, so I did. Price now £9500!! Trouble is nothing is comparing to these sofas but no way do I want to pay almost £10k. Any suggestions for similar but at a price point nearer £4?

Agent Wants Survey Before Complete Chain
I had an offer accepted (FTB) a week ago, the sellers have found something but their sellers are still actively looking. I also went back for a 2nd viewing with the main agent who is an account manager. After a week the agent won't take it off the market until I book a survey, but I normally wait until the chain has been…

Fixed overhead shower
It's not hugely more expensive to have a fixed overhead shower combined with a "regular" shower. As opposed to just having a "regular" wall mounted shower. This type of thing: Any particular pros/cons to the fixed overhead I should be aware of? Most shower units advertised appear not to have them which is why I wondered. I…

Hi I am new on this forum and thought I would see if anyone can help. David Wilson Homes Dispute
I am posting here as I have no idea where to go next. I am in a dispute with David Wilson Homes over the unvented water cylinder in my home. It is 2.5 years old and one of the expansion vessels needs replacing (according to an engineer, the only reason it would need replacing so soon is if it was faulty). Firstly, I never…

Scaffolding Question Regarding Regarding Cladding
Hi, We had a quote to replace some Cladding on our home, we have a flat roof. We were quoted £1000 to get this replaced. The surveyor has come out and said we needed scaffolding as we have external stairs and they need to get over it safely which is fair enough. He didn't. Say there would be a cost involved. We had a…

Subsidence
I'm about 99% sure that my home has subsidence. I have a 2m long crack that is 4 mm thick, and door frames have changed shape noticeably. I don't know what the wisest thing to do its. It seems that I have a few options: 1) Wait and see if it gets any worse, if it doesn't, patch it up myself and address any underlying…

Reducing screw hole size in Aluminium frame
The screw holding the locking bar screws into the aluminium window frame, self tapping I think it is. It appears the screw was over tightened at installation, has now fallen out, leaving a slightly larger screw hole in the frame, this means the screw can't screw into the hole because it is too big. Any ideas on how to…

Leaking asbestos garage roof
Hi all, Looking for some advice please. I picked up the keys to my new house on Monday (yay!) and have had a chance to have a closer look at my garage roof. I knew that there were some issues with it prior to purchase and made my offer accordingly, but I'm now looking at what options I have. The garage is in an 'M' shaped…

Suggestions for diagnosing washing machine fault
Hi All, My Indesit washing machine of 7 years has developed a fault (its first) and I wondered what websites others found useful for diagnosing and purchasing spares. My W/M won't agitate or spin - will take on load and drain water only. I opened the back to see whether I could spot an obvious cause. The fan belt is in…

Permitted Development adding to previous extension?
Obviously I will get professional help but does anyone here know? My house has previously had a front to back side extension, which was done under full planning permission. Somewhere to buy DFS outlet items / view ?
Hi, After LOTS of searching, we've finally found a settee that meets our requirements: http://www.dfs.co.uk/altitude/3-seater-electric-recliner-flight-101300454p--1#Be2hDz0JyTtdvQqW.97 The problem is that having spoken to DFS, this is an online-only item, so none of their showrooms stock it which means we can't go to see…
