Agent Wants Survey Before Complete Chain

I had an offer accepted (FTB) a week ago, the sellers have found something but their sellers are still actively looking. I also went back for a 2nd viewing with the main agent who is an account manager.
After a week the agent won't take it off the market until I book a survey, but I normally wait until the chain has been formed. Agent isn't bothered and has other offers with the "it is up to you or we will offer it to the next buyer" stance. I have been burnt before rushing to book surveys with nothing materialising. Usual advice I have read on here is to wait for the chain to form before committing. I told the agent this but he once again did not seem to be pleased.
When I rang yesterday pretending to want to view the property as a different buyer, they said no it is sold so no viewing (a different member of staff, front desk). When I rung again later as the buyer asking why it was still on the market, they said they are waiting for the sellers solictors details before they can take it off the market.
When speaking to the main agent today however, he contradicted himself when I asked what would he do if people ring to view it. He first said book a viewing, then he would he would not as it would jeopardise my offer so only offer it to the other buyers who initially offered (5 plus me) if I walked away.
What is odd is that is that it was marked as "SOLD STC" immediately on acceptance by another member of staff then a day later back on the market.
Just to add that I am not being put under pressure to book a survey, I have been ringing and emailing them so doing all the chasing to find out what was happening. What is the agent playing at? I am dealing with "Your Move".

Also, when I was making an offer (dealing with the main agent now), I was told this over the phone after my offer was sent (he called me and said this randomly):
"I am not threatening you but you cannot change the price if your offer is accepted" (I had not spoken at all at this point).
and when I asked for a second viewing on offer acceptance, I was told
"Is it to change the price"???
I have dealt with a few agents but this one is by far the worst.0 -
Of course you change your price after an offer is accepted (if you're in England or Wales, I think it's different in Scotland). A verbally accepted offer is not legally binding until contracts are exchanged.0

Sounds like there is something wrong with it to me and that is why they want you to do a survey.0

But then I would find out what the problem is with a survey and end up walking away if it is serious, so no one really benefits?0

Some EAs don't know their A*** from their E****. Purely due to lack of training, experience or plain lack of nous.
It sounds like they are in that category.0 -
Remember that the agent is working for the seller, not for you.
It can be in the seller's interests to keep the property on the market. They may get a better offer, which they would take above yours.
Their stance appears to be that unless you make a real commitment to the purchase, then they will keep their options open - perhaps even telling you that the deal's off if a preferred buyer comes along. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
