What's this mysterious black box by the door?
My sister has just bought a relatively new (Five years old) house in the Midlands. Next to the front door, slightly below where you'd normally find a doorbell, is a thick, black circle, about three inches in height, which protrudes from the wall about an inch in depth, and is shaped so it looks a bit like one of those…

Blomberg dishwasher
We went to the shop to buy a new dishwasher telling the salesman we were very disappointed with the Beko that had been a major expense to keep repairing. We ended by buying a Blomberg described as a German brand. Guess what, it seems to be a Beko in disguise. After 2 1/2 years it went wrong. Claimed repair under warranty.…

How much for a new kitchen
Can anyone give me a ballpark figure for a brand new kitchen? I appreciate it depends on the price of the cabinets, I just want to assess if we've got anywhere near enough money saved. We have 20 cabinets (of various sizes). Thank you

Improving electrical safety without a full rewire
We are thinking of moving to the Middle East for a couple of years and would need to rent out our house in the UK. Our electrics look a real mess. There are lots of wires hanging loose under the house, and the fuse box is ancient. Before renting it out I would like to get it all looked at. Everything works just fine, so…

LEC Fridge leaking water
I have a LEC undercounter fridge that is leaking water. It appears to not be draining in the hole at the rear of the fridge. If we don't wipe out the channel on a daily basis the water runs all out on the floor. We have done the usual, see if it is blocked. Put wire down the hole. It seems clear. Any suggestions?

My neighbours on either side of me have recently replaced the fences as after 25 years they were a bit rotten and one side actually blew down in the strong wind a few months ago. I am 70 years old and to be honest I can't be bothered to paint the fence, the last time I painted it I ended all sore and it fell down anyway,…

Cutting 25cm x 2cm section from steel bath
Consider a standard 1700mm long by 700mm wide steel bath. If installed the bathroom door will just slightly hit it and so the door will not be able to go back to the wall when opened. All the bath would need is, from the corner, a nip out of the length of 25cm and going into the bath a distance of just 2cm. Has anyone had…
