Best place to get a decent cheap double bed

Anyone got a recommendation for somewhere to get a double bed and mattress from. Ideally spending maximum £450 .

Go for a free/cheap second hand frame spend the money on the mattress.

450 won't be enough for top quality unless you get lucky finding a demo/return.

Ikea do a mattress with a memory foam layer.

I put them into a second home for a client, temporarily, before we started renovating it. They've just gone out and bought them for every bed in their main house, they're that comfortable.

The mattress is about £200, so that leaves plenty for a frame in Ikea. You can order online now. I find Ikea frames much stronger than other shops equivalent or slightly more expensive frames.

If you went for the option of a free/second hand frame, I have a Travelodge mattress at home. It was £450 for the kingsize and is heaven.

People have reported that some memory foam disintegrates after a while,so I'd go for a 'regular' mattress with a separate memory foam topper, if required.

I have found that 'damask' covers are worth paying extra for as they wear much better than the cheaper open weave ones.

Can't tell you how pleased I am with my Highgrove mattress, still nice and firm after 4 years. They are a UK company but their website is down at the moment.

As others have said, the bed frame isn't important - invest in the mattress. Here's a link to a similar mattress to mine, ignore the bed and the link isn't an endorsement just the first hit in google

Agree totally that the mattress is the most important thing. Not sure if the locations are any good for you but we found Hamseys https://www.hamseys.co.uk to be good value and affordable for bed frames. Didn't get our mattress from them as we already had one so can't comment on that.
