How to save money on inkjet cartridges?
I have a Canon printer and have been buying Canon Pixma 510 cartridges from WHS at £17.95 a pop. I usually buy them there because the shop is near me and I'm in a big panic when the last one has run out but it's time I saved some money on this! I've just seen I could have been buying them on Amazon for £11.65 with free p&p…

Toilet seat - help needed
My wooden toilet seat is rather old and worn and I would like to replace it with a new one. Now, I've never done this before. My ex used to do all this type of thing. My 12 year old son knew where the screws were, but he was unable to move them at all. I've had a go, but they won't budge. I've tried using a pair of pliers…

How much might this cost? New Bathroom
We'd really like our bathroom overhauled, it was only done about 6 years ago when we moved in, but it was a bit of a rush job, done by my Dad (who is not a plumber or tiler!) and a few things are not quite right. It is only very small, the width of a normal bath one way, and room for sink and toilet, that's all. The shower…

Pressure washer - any deals/opinions please!
Hi - well, the pressure washer's just gone bang, and as I have some Tesco clubcard vouchers just screaming to be used, I've had a look at what Mr T has. I can't really justify spending loads (around the £50 mark max) - it'll be used occasionally (the last one was a cheapy Aldi one and did just fine for a few years!). So,…

Staircase
Hi, what sort of figure would I be looking at to have my current staircase replaced... It goes from the front bedroom up into the loft. It is VERY steep and has about 7 steps. They are all very uneven and small. They are between 2 walls as you walk up (if that makes sense?!). They stairs have always been there since the…

Creaking Stairs
Good afternoon all, I have a problem with my top 3 steps on my staircase (the largest steps), they creak badly. When sitting downstairs it sounds as if the person is going to come through the stairs. We recently had new carpet fitted and I took this opportunity to screw down the front of the the offending stairs, but has…

Moving 60kg up two floors
Hi I live on the second floor in a flat without lift. I've just ordered a 60kg treadmill, but I was just told that the courier will only take it to the front door of the ground floor. It won't be possible for me to drag 60kg up two floors! Could anyone please suggest some solutions? Thanks!

Should I buy a kitchen with gift vouchers?
Hi, I am thinking about buying a new Wickes Kitchen with Wickes vouchers that I can get from work. Through this scheme I buy the vouchers at 10% discount. The new kitchen will cost around £8.8k, so that would be about £900 saving. However, what protection do I have and is it better off to buy the kitchen on credit card for…

Neighbours extension
We bought our semi detached house three years ago. The vendor also owns the other house in the semi. Ours is two bed and has been extended (probably in the 1970s) back to include a dining room, downstairs shower/loo and large kitchen. Next door is one up one down with a courtyard garden running the length of our dining…

Mesh??? for open windows
I have a large south facing bedroom window that I like to open especially at night (top opener.) However, on a few occasions I have found wasps flying in. I have looked around and don't think there are any nests etc. Anyway, I wondered if you could buy some sort of mesh screen that you could just stick on and remove when…

alternatives to net curtains for privacy
My front window is quite close to the street and only a couple of small bushes partially block the view. I have curtains but not any net curtains as I have always hated them. Has anyone found a good alternative which doesn't block out too much light. My house is north facing so already tends to be a bit dark when the…

Light switches
I am confused. I replaced a light switch at the weekend. I copied the wiring as it was on the old switch. But was talking to someone at work today who said I need to be careful I haven't wired the live and the neutral the wrong way round as the circuit would still be live when the light is off and this could potentially be…
