alternatives to net curtains for privacy

My front window is quite close to the street and only a couple of small bushes partially block the view. I have curtains but not any net curtains as I have always hated them. Has anyone found a good alternative which doesn't block out too much light. My house is north facing so already tends to be a bit dark when the weather is dull.

White venetian blinds. Tilted a bit so the inside edge is higher than the outside edge. You can see out, they can't see in.
With a north facing room, if you can paint outside, then watch where the sunlight falls in your front patio area and get that light reflected back in by painting a wall white ... or installing a (frosted) mirror.0 -
thats what we had at the last house and it was superb0

you can buy film that you stick to the inside of your windows, it allows you to see out but others only see a mirror image on their side, google "privacy film" or similarThrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -

You can buy opaque stuff that sticks to the windows. Neighbours have done it but I don't like it too much. I agree with the blinds suggestion. The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has it's limits. - Einstein0

I have vertical blinds on my north facing windows. Not cheap but at least you can adjust how much light you want to come into the room. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Do blinds look odd together with curtains? I don't want to get rid of the curtains already there as they weren't cheap ones.0
