Is there such a thing as a table top smoke alarm?
I suspect not, simply due to the fact smoke rises so alarms are ceiling based but just wondered if there was anything on the market that could sit on a bedside table.

To Window Cill or not To Window Cill - that is the question!
We have had an extension done and will hopefully be at decoration stage soon. The walls under the windows don't have cills and I'm in 2 minds whether to just paint them or stick a cill on top. Any ideas anyone?

Condenseheat Ltd - are they reputable?
My elderly father had a salesman from this company come to his door who persuaded him to agree to install a new central heating system: new boilers, pipes and new radiators. These people are based in Stockport but work around the country, apparently. I want to know: are they reputable? Is their work good? We have been…

Warm Air Ducted Heating
I'm looking to buy a house that has an old air ducted heating system circa 1970 and whilst there are (some) arguments in favour of keeping the system and just replacing the boiler I'm firmly in the camp of removing it and going for a wet system. Has anyone ever had work done on their house to remove the old system? There's…

Upholstery Foam
I have a pair of twin seater leather sofas. They look great despite the fact that they are around 10 years old (got them from Leather Workshop Direct in Gwent incidentally). Do I need to bring any papers with me (ID..etc)? Is it open for everyone or subject to credit checks? I have a "fair" credit check and last time I tried to get double…

Insulating Conservatory
I have seen an advert where you can have the internal framework of a conservatory insulated by fixing timbers to the internal framework and then insulating the gap. The roof area is then boarded with 12.5mm moisture resistant plasterboard and then skim of plaster. Has anyone had this done or has anyone any views as to…

Can I simply replace a chimney stack with a low profile vent?
I'm having solar panels fitted right up to my chimney stack, so want to make it as low as possible to reduce shading. It's a small square one (2 bricks wide), originally built in the late 1970s for coal although it is currently topped off with an round aluminium grill. It carries the fumes from my old gas fire with back…
