Upholstery Foam

I have a pair of twin seater leather sofas. They look great despite the fact that they are around 10 years old (got them from Leather Workshop Direct in Gwent incidentally). Problem is that the seat pads are a little past their prime and I need to get hold of some new foam inners.

There appears to be loads of suppliers of the necessary foam on the 'net but prices vary widely and quality appears to be non-standardised (as far as I can tell, so you don't know what you are getting). I would prefer to spend a bit more and try before I buy so to speak but don't have any upholsters nearby.

Do any of you guys have any buying experience you might share? Want something that will last but if it's a good price too, happy days.

Might be worth contacting the original retailer to see if they can supply replacements.
    OR
Are you searching for foam supplies or upholstery supplies? The latter give more information on type of foam and intended use and not just thickness.

we were in the same boat - pair of fantastic chesterfields but thought they needed to be resprung. Phoned a few places up and nowone seemed that interested or wanted thousands of pounds.

Then one old boy said might be cushions not the springs and tried the cushion from the club chairs on the sofa and it felt great.

Then like you looked around and got prices varying from £25 up to £200 per cushion and learnt about different types of foam, filler, stockingette and other stuff I never knew.

In the end I found a small place in Thatcham which had been there for years and years and years (round the back of the big coop car park and as I was going past put 3 seat cushions in the car.

They did them with their best foam, dakron wrap, and stockingette for £20 a cushion. Did the 3 I took in and another 3 for me to take home for the second sofa.

Were done in a couple of hours and the sofa feels as new.

That was my first port of call SuzyM. While they sold me a blinding pair of sofas, their after sales is less impressive. To be fair they sell seating so I shouldn't complain.

Have tried both the options mentioned but no joy - hence the post.

    Thanks for the suggestions regardless.

Bingo this sounds like a winner ukjoel. Do you happen to know the name of said Thatcham based establishment? How long ago did you get yours done?

    Many thanks.
