Wire through gutter - leak
Hi - hoping for some advice on this. We bought a house recently and when it rained noticed there was a leak where the conservatory meets the house. I spoke to a roofer who had a look and it looks like the previous owner has added a light to the outside wall - to do this he's gone through the gutter that has been built…

Tesco sofas
Just wondered what experience people have had with Tesco sofas? Not ready to buy just yet but looking around and we've spotted one in the style we like, with the reclining function we wanted (everywhere else seems to have one or the other!) in our local Tesco home. Is the quality any good? We're not expecting a £2000 sofa…

Front door insulation
Hi Guys! My wooden front door lets quite a lot of air in, which is annoying, I have made a big difference by putting a curtain on it, but it seems the draft blows out where the curtain meets the floor, it moves the curtain slightly which is worrying It's a typical british cheapo wooden door, with the half circle at the…

New taps - what to look for and where to buy?
Hiya, Been told by a plumber that my bathroom and kitchen taps are both finished. Despite them only being relatively new (about 2/3 years old), he thinks limescale may have blocked them. I live in central London - an area known for its hard water. Does this sound plausible? Any who, I was wondering where one might go to…

Halogen Ovens
As far as I can see, there are 3 models on the market sold by JML and IdealWorld. IdealWorld is the only one who stocks the "Crisp and Bake Halogen Oven" which they are selling for £109.99 which is a lot pricer than the other models because it turns the food. Who has one? Who wants one? Is it worth it? Which model is best?…

Damp Problem
Hi, We've recently redecorated a room in which there was a damp problem on the inside of one of the external walls, and the damp has come back after 6 months (unsurprisingly I guess! :) ). The problem is that I am unsure whether it's condensation or penetrating damp. The symptoms are mainly that water gathers along the top…

CheckATrade feedback
Has anyone used trades from CheckATrade, and if so, what did they do, and what was the work like? There is an old thread here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2791140/checkatrade But I thought to start a new one as CheckATrade is growing rapidly. If the mods see fit to combine the two, well, so be it. My…

We live in a hard water area and we seem to have some grey/yellowish water staining on the inside of our 3 year old Toilet pan. We bought the new build property about 3 years ago and I'm wondering if the problem is with the cheap materials (toilet pan) they us throughout the build or if this is a hard water issue. Ps -…

Matt finish bathroom wall tiles
[FONT="]My wife likes the look of some matt finish ceramic (not porcelain) wall tiles she has seen for use in our new bathroom. I am concerned as to how well they might last, what they might be like to clean, and general longevity. Reading some other forums users suggest they might leach colour/turn porous over time…
