Any chance of resurrection for a burnt Meyer saucepan

Not sure if this is best place to post but need some help or advice!
I've been living with friends the past few months, and accidentally burned one of their stainless steel Meyer pans making popcorn from scratch (never again!!) - I tried boiling with both bicarb of soda and washing powder but despite removing most of the burns - the pan has instead started corroding!
Am moving out (planned) in two weeks, not exactly flush right now and need to replace it ideally as want to keep the friendship! - just wondering if anyone has a) bought a pan back from the dead successfully or b) anyone seen one on offer?
P.s. they don't have receipt - the handle is slightly wonky, and is already a replacement from I believe House of Fraser a couple of years back..

I like stainless steel in preference to so-called non stick because in my experience it is easy to clean. For the worst case use something abrasive such as steel wool. But you might find that the steel has discoloured due to various chemical reactions at high temperatures, and the steel might even have changed its structure (look up quenching and annealing to see what I mean). I burnt my stainless steel espresso maker, but I was able to bring it back to almost like new by very strenuous cleaning with metal polish and an old cloth. You could try a power tool of some kind, with a cloth wrapped round, and metal polish, but take care, you don't want to get caught in the cloth and hurt yourself. This works if the damage is superficial. The metal polish is the kind you buy at supermarkets, alongside silver polish and furniture polish.
I don't know why when you tried to clean it, the metal subsequently corroded, most odd. I know that poor quality stainless steel does corrode without too much persuasion, but Meyer should use the good stuff.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -

You may want to take them up on their unconditional warranty! If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
Meyer have several ranges of stainless steel saucepans, do you know which one it is? Have a look on Amazon, they seem to have good prices on kitchen stuff at the moment. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0

Many thanks for all the very helpful responses - going to contact Meyer again, see if can exchange under warranty but not sure will without receipt - if not I think its the Argos one seems to be just under 18cm in size. Bottom of pan just says durable stainless steel. Don't have time to try sanding it and to be honest am clumsy, would probably end in my tears!!
Very annoying as have my own set of hard anodized Meyer pans that have survived caramel and worse treatment with barely a scratch on them!I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D

Just measured it - think its actually the 16cm one based on measuring the base of it.I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D

Give this a try, Sprinkle a thick layer of Bicarbonate of soda into the pan with a covering of hot water. Leave to soak overnight.
This worked when I make jam and it was stuck like glue when I overcooked it. It peeled away, still needed to give it a rub, but not with steel wool, that is forbidden on my stainless steel pans!
OH HECK! Just read about the corrosion, that's a different matter!0 -
I've emailed pictures to them, waiting to hear back...I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D

Lemon juice is good for cleaning stainless steel pans. Just put it in and leave for a few hours. Use a normal nylon type pan scrubber to non scratch scrub. (may need to repeat a couple of times).0

I normally use biological washing powder to rescue the (very occasionally!) burnt-on stainless steel pan - I just leave it to soak for a few hours with some water. However, since the OP has mentioned corrosion, I don't think much can be done other than a replacement. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0
