Can I remove Tilt & Turn Double Glazing units from their frames?
As the weather continues getting warmer and warmer I need to find some way to get more air through my house. Leaving windows open is fine, but last year we had a large wasp problem in the early evening; up to 20 of the blighters congregating at our bedroom window every night so we just couldn't open it. I tried to fit some…

No hot or cold water to 2nd floor bathroom when water is run in 1st floor en suite!
We have recently had our house refurbished and part of that was having an en suite added on the 1st floor and a shower room on the top floor. Problem is that when we run the bath in the en suite the water slows in the shower and after about 30 seconds stops completely. When the taps on the bath in the en suite are turned…

Can I get permission to extend beyond 4m?
Hi I have a detatched house which already has a double storey rear extension of about 3m. Is it possible to get permission to build to say 5 or 6m, or is the 4m I read about the limit. Am confused between whether this is the limit for permitted development, or simply a hard and fast rule for all planning permission…

Carpet Fitting Question
We have had a quote from someone to supply and fit a lounge carpet. We can understand them having to supply 18 sq m for our 15 sq m lounge as the dimensions work that way, what I can't quite understand is the necessity to charge for fitting for the amount of carpet supplied rather than the area of the room. Is this normal?

Pipe for central heating.....normal?
My parents had their central heating implemented under the home grant scheme. They used to have a gas fire in the fireplace, one of those with flames behind glass. All very late 80's When the central heating was upgraded they disconnected this and today I pulled it out. Behind it, going through the fireplace is now a…

Damp
Hi all, We bought our victorian terrace at the end of last year. The survey brought up a damp problem (not totally unexpected as it has a semi basement) and we then instructed an independent damp specialist to advise us on the remedies, the mortgage company insisted that we had the work done within 3 months of completion.…

Which electric saw / saws and accessories will I need ?
I'm going to be working with wood on a couple of projects and though I'm comfortable with what is required, I'm not sure whether I can get away with just one type of electric saw for all the jobs I have to do. The first job is decking, both joists of 4" x 2" and boards of 130mm x 30mm. The second job is stud walling with…

Grubby Teak Garden Furniture
Hi I have some teak garden furniture that looks well past its best, it had gone all grey (I know it's supposed to go that colour) but I hated it and was thinking of putting it on Ebay and buying something cheaper that I could replace easily when it was worn. A friend suggested I buy some teak cleaner - I was skeptical re…

Loft conversion finance
I'm looking to buy a house with an 85% mortgage. We would like to do a loft conversion straight away at a cost of £35000. There is reasonable evidence that this would immediately add at least £35000 to the value of the property. We are looking for a low-cost loan which would take into account the fact that the money is for…

How much is reasonable to re-point a small semi in Kent?
Hi, We need to have our pointing re-done. I think its fine in some places but would rather get the lot done as we are starting to have some condensation issues inside and I think some of the bad bits are contributing to this. Can anyone recommend a brickie in West Kent area and do you know how much this is likely to cost?…
