Our fridge has started to run very cold ie freezes things.Would this be a thermostat fault. It is a Hotpoint larder fridge.
Would it be easy to sort myself by getting the part & fitting it or is it a call-out job.
Any ideas please.

I've got one of those larder fridges, worst buy ever, had the same problem with things freezing all the time. I found that I had to turn down the thermostat - this caused a lot of moisture in the fridge and to combat that keep a small open bowl of bicarb soda in there and give it a stir whenever I remember or top it up if it's looking damp - this combination seems to solve the problem. I would also recommend never letting any food especially fruit / veg touch the sides of the fridge or it will still freeze. Have been told by friends that a larder fridge is apparently different to regular fridges but by that stage I had it so didn't chase any further. Not much info, but hope it helps a bit.0

this is often caused by not having any airflow around the back of the fridge, make sure that their is a good inch gasp at the top to allow the air to circulate0

Another thing that can cause this is a blockage. There should be a chilling panel (don't know the proper term) towards the top of the fridge with a channel below it to collect the condensation. This has a path to the back of the fridge and it can become blocked causing water to drip all over the fridge.
A bit of gentle poking with a coat hanger wire has done it for me a few times over the years.
Hope this helpsYou have been reading.....another magnificent post by garethgas :beer:0 -
