Double Glazing Units-Correct Thickness
I've been quoted for the replacement of some single glazed porch windows with double glazed units. The spec given is 18mm double glazed argon-filled units. Is this an acceptable thickness?-I've no idea what the standards are for double glazing.

UPVC Window Service recommendation
Hello all, Would anybody be able to recommend a UPVC window repair/service company in the east London/Essex area? I've had 2 or 3 of the large window companies round to quote for a replacement window who seamed really interested to show me a chunk of window frame and then never got back to me with prices. The only trouble…

Renovating bathroom - damp advice needed
We live in a victorian terrace house, like many of these houses at some point in the past a single storey extension has been added at the back for a bathroom (I guess when the owner got fed up going out to a toilet in the garden!). This extension is made of brick with the walls rendered. The roof is tiled. We plan to…

Help - removing tiles from plasterboard
I'm trying to get the tiles down in the bathroom. The walls are lined with plasterboard and the tiles higher up the wall came off pretty easily. The problem is lower down different adhesive seems to have been used and it wont budge without ripping holes in the wall. Does anyone know how to get the tile off without causing…

Induction or gas on glass?
Having new kitchen fitted soon, had decided on a black glass induction hob for a change, 'economical' easy to wipe clean etc, however Ive just heard that although they are percieved as 'economical' as it only heats the pan (ie no flames/heat loss at the sides etc) £ for £ they they are much more expensive to run and can…

Where to buy a bag of salt for gritting?
Stupid question - where do you buy salt for gritting from? DIY sheds? We moved into a new house in August. The drive (right across the width of the front of the house - no front lawn) is that concrete made to look like block paving with an imprinted pattern (not nearly as vile as I just made it sound!). Great, low…

Hi all! I'm after some advice on choosing a portable heater to keep me and anyone else a bit warmer in the house whilst renovating it. I have no heating at all. I do have a supply of electric and I want the heater to be portable so I can move it around easy enough. I don't want to spend a fortune, but I want something that…

Double glazing
It has only become noticeable during the last 2 nights but it appears I have a cold breeze coming through gaps between my double glazing and window ledge. The double glazing frame is white and I was wondering whether people have had same problem and rectified it by using sealant or self adhesive rubber strips or foam. A…

Just a quick one. To cut a long story short. We had french windows installed in September a day later we noticed we could see day light from inside to outside. dual voltage appliance problem
Bought a hair dryer advertised as dual voltage and their recommended plug adaptor. Works fine but the hair dryer has two settings weak and strong and it will only work on the UK electric on the higher setting. It states this in the manual, but of course I didn't have the manual when I ordered. Would prefer to get it…

Cold water has a funny taste
Our water really has tasted funny over the last couple of weeks. Even when boiled it tastes bitterish. My husband changed the tap on the kitchen sink, but surely that would not be affecting the taste of the water. Is ther anywhere I can get it tested?

Where is my manhole cover????
I know this sounds like a stupid question but how the heck do I find the manhole cover for my property?
