Aquaboard - necessary?
Is Aquaboard necessary in an overbath shower area? My builder says that the waterproof adhesive and microban grout he uses is all that is necessary and seems a bit resistant to using Aquaboard. I thought this was standard practice nowadays. I'm worried about the wall behind the tiles getting wet and mouldy. Thanks for any…

Where to position an extractor fan
My builder has suggested fitting the bathroom fan in the ceiling above the over-bath shower. Would this be a good place? I'm thinking that water from the shower might go into the fan and that it would be better positioned at the opposite end of the bath. Sorry if this is nonsense but I really don't know anything about…

Cast iron fire insert
Hi there I am thinking of buying a cast iron Victorian fireplace for my new house. It is one of the styles that was made as a complete 'unit' including insert, backplate and mantel. I know I will need to buy a hearth for it to stand upon, but want to know if fitting it, for decorative purposes only, is simply a matter of…

Carry on and build bed now, or wait?
Hi all, Got a lovely chunky bunk bed from GLTC, which requires a 2 man team to build (they say 3 hours...) and after counting endless amounts of screws and beginning to open the boxes to inspect the bigger parts, we found one has a massive indented L shaped scratch, which will be visible when built. This wood plank part is…

Sofa Cushions Need Refilling?
We have a 10 year old sofa that is structurally fine (frame, springs etc), but all the cushions have lost their shape, and even with regular plumping up look very sad. Is it possible to get these refilled, and if so is there a national or high street service that is recommended? Or is it the sort of job that I should seek…

Can toddler dribble take the colour out of leather and what do I do now?
Hello, Two weeks ago I got a stressless sofa and 2 chairs. They were the showroom display models so we got them for 1/2 price (this was the only way we could afford them as they are very expensive but I have a problem with my back and needed good firm sofas). We have been really happy with them but a couple of nights ago…
