Where to position an extractor fan

My builder has suggested fitting the bathroom fan in the ceiling above the over-bath shower. Would this be a good place? I'm thinking that water from the shower might go into the fan and that it would be better positioned at the opposite end of the bath.

Sorry if this is nonsense but I really don't know anything about extractors (obviously ).

the purpose of a bathroom extract is to take the moist air out of the room to stop condensation etc on the internal walls...

This is a suitable place to fit it. Your builder is correct.

It depends which fan you're buying. There are different ratings for the various zones in the bathroom but you would hope your builder would know all about them.

Our fan isn't directly overhead because we had a handy airbrick in the wall and we used that space for it. It works very well where it is.

Would you fit a cooker extract hood directly over the cooker or on the other side of the kitchen?

Some fans come with a built in light too .... for use directly over the shower area!
