Polysterene tiles in roof...

Hi guys hoping someone can help me. We have just been fitting some loft insulation (quilt style) between the joists in our loft. We have some polysterene tiles between the joists and just wondered if we should remove them first before putting the new stuff down?
The house was built in 1972 and they are the original tiles.
Thanks in advance!

I would say leave the polystyrene there and just put the new insulation on top. It's not a bad insulator and I would think it's more hassle than it's worth removing something that has been there since 1972. You do have to be a little wary of covering electric wiring with insulation, but light circuits are usually ok so long as they are in good condition.
