New Boiler - Now or Later?
I've got a Glow-worm Hideaway boiler, floorstanding in a unit in the kitchen. To predated me buying the house but I'm guessing it was fitted aroung 1995 when the previous owners did lot of building work in the kitchen. I know it is inefficient compared to modern boilers and it would probably save me money to replace it.…

Architrave and skirting query
Do people usually have the same thickness of skirting and architrave, or do they have thicker architrave in order to have it standing out a little? I'm in the process of getting quoted for new skirtings etc and one timber merchant insists I should have thicker architrave. That's the only company who have said that and I've…

When joiners put in new doors, do they.....
....normally have to take all the old framing etc out themselves or is it expected that it will be done ready for them to just fit the new framing, door & architrave? Wallpaper sample size
I know it sounds really daft to ask but it been years, well over 10 years from the last time I did some wallpapering. So when I go into the diy store to look at the wallpapers, what a good size to take as a sample. Would a length of 10inches pieces give me a good idea for when I place them on the wall in the chosen room?

Cracks in bay window ceiling
I had new, internal shutters fitted on Monday in the bay window of my bedroom. The men removed the vertical blinds which were previously there and fitted shutters by installing what looks like a sort of architrave round the window and then fitting shutters. Firm was local, established one. The other night (Thurs I think) I…

Upright vs Chest Freezer
We're sorting out our new kitchen and will be having a under counter fridge with an icebox in there to maximise worktop space and then a freezer in the garage but am trying to decide on an upright or chest freezer in there. We will probably be using it everyday so am thinking an upright with 4 or 5 shelves / drawers makes…

Help hiring movers
I think I'm going to have to hire movers in September when I move from Sheffield to Norwich. My stuff will no longer fit in in a hired van and be lifted only by me. A female friend helped me move to the flat I'm in now but the only furniture I had then was a sofa. My belongings have trebeled in mass since then. Plus I have…
