Usable door for garage
Hi,Recently posted about converting garage, due to time going to be in house, cost to do and general uncertainty if right thing to do decided against. Reconditioning sewing machine
Hello, My lovely granny and has been ever so kind and given me her old sewing machine. I was mentioning that I was going to attempt to make my own curtains after seeing how much they cost in the shops. It's an old electric singer sewing machine which she had serviced regularly, although she hasn't used it now for 10 years.…

Phillips Ledino Spotlights - LED
We're upgrading the lights in our new house and have already invested in a Phillips Ledino 3 x 7.5w suspension light for our dining room. It was the brightest by far of all the LED lights we looked at and will hopefully last us for 20 years +, but wasn't cheap unfortunately. We're now looking to replace our kitchen…

Possible Unsupported Chimney

Condensate pipe pointing upwards
I have a Valiant Ecotec plus 837. It was fitted in Nov 08 with a complete new system. In January the boiler stopped working and water was dripping from the underneath. On phoning the gasman who fitted it, he correctly said it was the condensate pipe which will have frozen. After pouring boiling water on the pipe outside it…

New Kitchen or replacement doors/work surfaces
Moving into a new house and want to update the kitchen. We are considering leaving the cupboard carcases and getting new cupboard doors, worksufaces and sink. Long lasting energy efficient bulb !
Energy efficient bulbs appear to get a lot of bad publicity on the TV. I thought it only fair to give you some POSITIVE feedback about them. They are alot better than people complain about: I have just changed a energy efficient bulb in my porch that has been fitted since DEC 1996! It is always been on when it's dark and…

Changing hinges on UPVC windows
I have ten upvc windows with the side openers, there are metal scissor type hinges top and bottom, the same as these. I have noticed over the last year or so, the windows don't close as tight as they used too and leave a small gap around the edges. Clearly the hinges need changing, has anyone experience of changing hinges?…

Wooden or engineered wood floor
We are thinking of replacing a laminate floor in our hall / kitchen with a solid wood or engineered floor. The base is concrete. We had no problem installing laminate. Is there a solid / engineered board system that clicks together like laminate and is easy to install. Some of them seem to need glue or nails. Thanks

Advice on power tools
I need to saw quite a few pinewood planks soon and don't fancy having to do it all by hand. I'm thinking of buying a saw powertool but don't want to splash out as I will only need it occasionally in the future. Looking at all the many tools out there I think recipricating saw would best suit my purpose than a jigsaw but…
