Reconditioning sewing machine

Hello,

My lovely granny and has been ever so kind and given me her old sewing machine. I was mentioning that I was going to attempt to make my own curtains after seeing how much they cost in the shops.

It's an old electric singer sewing machine which she had serviced regularly, although she hasn't used it now for 10 years. She was over joyed at the thought of someone using it again (even though I have pointed out that I've not touched a sewing machine since I was 12 - and it didn't end well back then!).

Anyway, before I somehow teach myself to use it, I need to get it reconditioned. I've been quoted £59 for this, does this sounds about right?

Thanks
Hoping to create a beautiful life for DS and I.

Just be careful when you take it for reconditioning a friend did this and didn't realise for ages that she actually didn't get her own machine back but one that looked the same.. but it worked ok so she just kept it.. but if its sentimental then just check..

By the way curtains are easy and there are plenty of people here who will help you if you need it... and sewing with a machine is a bit like riding a bike, once you start it all comes back to you lol good luck

Yep, that sounds the right price to me. Sewing machines definitely benefit from servicing, but a lot of problems are solved with cleaning. Once it's up and running like new, it's worth learning how to keep the insides cleaned out yourself - with all the thread and fabric, you do get a lot of lint build up. Good luck with it!

You would not get much done for less than what you have been quoted.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
