Radiator Alignment
A question for the pro's; I am replacing several radiators one of which is a double. Although the new one is the same size as the old one (800x600) it is also approx 10mm thicker This means the rad connections dont line up with the pipes which are embedded in a concrete floor. :( I cant move the rad back closer to the wall…

Wood Flooring Advise?
Hi, i had a floor fitter, who says in order to get the most out of the oak wood flooring, and to stop the gaps forming the best things to do would be to hold them down with concrete, and he mentioned doing the floor bit by bit, for example do like a square meter, clamp them together, and then do another sqaure meter the…

Kitchen worktops
I want some advice about kitchen worktops. I don't want (thin) laminate (because I think it looks cheap) or wood (because it takes too much looking after). I think I don't want granite (because it stains too easily). I like the look (but not the price) of those artificial solid surfaces like Corian. Or then there are the…

Building a raised bed
Am planning to build a raised bed at the weekend, over the site of an old pond. The pond has been drained and pretty much filled with rubble, hardcore, stones etc. My plan is to cement 4 posts in the corners, then nail/screw/coach bolt some planks of wood into the posts, building them up a layer at a time. It's about 6ft x…

My alarm has just gone off about an hour ago. I had a new boiler installed 3 weeks ago and not had a problem until now. The installers are not available to phone until tommorow. I have opened all windows and been outside. My question is this. Could there be a fault on the alarm itself? it only sounded once. Should it…

Recommend a cordless drill
Hiya, Anyone any recommendations for a reasonable quality cordless drill? I'm thinking that as it's 20% off everything at B&Q this weekend, now might be a good time to get one. Was thinking of something in the £50-100 bracket. Cheers Pete

Plumbing: connecting 22mm and 3/4 pipe
I need to re-route some pipe work which is imperial 3/4. The pipe I'm replacing is connected bewteen two Tees. The imperial pipework have collars on them raising the diameter before entering the Tee. Extending patio
Hi, When we moved into our brand new house the patio seemed tiny so we've decided to extend it and we got given the slabs by the developers as they had some leftover. Need to do this as inexpensively as possible...can we mix cement ourselves without getting a cement mixer?? Or are there other options for laying the slabs?

Found great curtaining material - can I get it cheaper?
Hi there found a lovely material at Skopos which isn't a bad price at £12 per metre but because we need 38 sq metres, I'm trying to see if i can get it any cheaper. All I know is it's called Aspen - red colourway and it's a (pretend) shot silk type affair. I asked skopos if they'd be able to knock any off but they can't…

What's a flange box?
I've come across this FLANGE BOX on the B&Q site. Is it just a plastic back box you would use in the same way as a metal back box? It's clearly not a drywall box or a surface mount one so is it just the plastic equivilent of the metal box? Or does it have a particular purpose? I'm thinking it might be a good recessed back…
