Clenaing Stainless Steel?

Ok I got a the most gorgeous Kenwood set of pans in Stainless Steel.
I bought a cheapy stainless steel cleaner, which seems to do my chrome appliances etc all nicely but it won't shift the heat stains etc on the bottom of the pans, my frying pans espcially have gone almost black! Not happy cuase they are so gorgeous and I want to keep them in top condition.

I heard this yesterday on the radio.

"Try vinegar, or a mixture of vinegar and Borax and/or Bicarb."

or tear off a nice big sheet of kitchen foil, crumple it up and use as a scourer.
