Built-in oven
Found a Zanussi oven, depth stated at 560mm. Depth of a standard kitchen unit is 565mm. Manual states should have a 45mm gap between back of appliance and wall. Is this correct? Surely all kitchen units are a standard depth.

There are about 5 lights on the stairs between the 2 flats and was thinking of changing these too, but they are on a timer, about 2 mins i think, and as the energy savings bulbs dont come onto their full…

3 year old house - leak under the shower! NHBC?
We have recently moved into our first house (a month ago). We haven't noticed before, but about a week ago we noticed a patch on the living room ceiling. It looked like it was a leak at some point and we wondered if it was there all that time, just we haven't noticed. But this morning I decided to measure where exactly…

Old Paint.
I've got several tins of emulsion paint (some Dulux and B&Q) that are up to two years since originally opening. The contents seem to have a watery layer on the surface and smells odd but not putrid. Should I pour off the watery stuff or stir it in, or should I get fresh paint ?

Recommend a washing machine, please!
My machine has been diagnosed as needing a new motor and is uneconomical to repair. It was a Siemens and I was very happy with it. I have young family and so use the machine a lot. My criteria would be: spin speed 1000 or more 6-7kg load quiet! reliable, of course price - looking for good value, but don't mind paying a bit…

New brickwork
We're currently in the proces of having our house extended and I've got a question that I've always wondered about. What is the white substance that seems to appear on new brickwork? Why does it happen and will it disappear? To be honest, there's not an awful lot of it on our house but I've seen some examples of it where…

Faulty Boiler advice please!
Hi there I'm hoping for some advice from anyone with knowledge of electric hot water boilers. My hot water suddenly stopped heating up a few days ago. Conservatory or extension?
We really need some more space in our house and had someone round tonight to give us a quote for a conservatory coming from the existing dining room. We were planning to extend the central heating into it and take away the existing patio doors. However, having looked through threads on here I see that you are supposed to…

Do You Have a Showerbath?
I'm thinking about re-doing our bathroom and am keen on getting a showerbath installed. The only thing that puts me off though is that when we have previously had showers over baths, water has leaked under the glass screen and onto the floor and the rubber seals get so manky looking after a while. Do you have this problem…

Cutting worktops
Hi I am a keen DIYer but would I be able to cut and bolt worktops (never done it before) or should I get a chippie for £75 per cut? If I mess it all up I would have wasted the worktops, the router and the template but if I can do it I will have saved £225.
