Is it a good idea to tile over existing sound wall tiles over a bath or should I knock them off and patch up the plaster work or even just blob extra large spots of tile cement on the back of the new tiles?

freshly plastered walls - pva/water mix ratio?
got a lod of walls to paint and dont really have the time to do severla coats of watered down paint (used 4 paint/1 water and worked well) I cant remember the ratio for mixing PVA with water so it only needs the one coat before painting over... anyone?
