Kitchen Installation

Has anyone any ideas on how much it should cost to install a new B&Q or MFI type kitchen - ideally a price per unit would be ideal - for the south east.
Is it better to use the shops fitters or to employ an independent?

Find an independant - and get a Howdens Kitchen ( they own MFI )
( your builder will get you a brochure - Howdens are trade only )
The price will be much lower than you are being quoted now.0 -
howdens and mfi no longer the same, fitting can vary widely but pm with an idea of size and requirements and can advise. also consider independant showrooms as mfi poor quality with steep pricing0

Also bear in mind that any decent carpenter is going to run a mile from an MFI or B&Q kitchen. Find a good carpenter first - ask friends or other trades you trust - and then find out whose kitchens they recommend.0

We got someone from the local paper and he charged £55 per unit to make up and fit and about £100 to do the worktop and cornice, plinth and all that other stuff. We actually had alot of double units (he still charged £55) and 2 larder units (again £55 each) so it hardly cost that much and that was 2 years ago and it still looks braw!!! The kitchen was from wickes and it is pretty sturdy. You may walk and you may run

Hi
My ex partner is a kitchen fiter and most charge around £1000 to fit a small-medium kitchen nomatter where it is from (if paying company). It is generally cheaper to get an independant one rather than one the shops use as i like my ex, you can get them to do it over a weekend or 2, and as they will be doing it purely or themselves instead of salary from their employers will do it cheaper.
It also depends if you want tiling and extra sockets put inmoved as this costs more money.£2 Savers club £0/£150

Dh is a kitchen fitter and works on his own, you will find that fitters from places like B&Q are self employed anyway and charge well over the odds mainly as B&Q need there cut too, so i would recomend you try and get recomendations for an independant fitter.
Howdens are good kitchens, but they are more expensive saying that dh has an account and gets a big discount so any fitter with an account will likely get this too.
i disagree about a decent carpenter running from B&Q/MFI kitchens, a decent carpenter can make these look better than they are, and dh would never refuse to fit something a customer has chosen, a great way to get a bad reputation
The main problem with the big comanies is getting what you ordered, DH has had to on more occassions than he would like. Has had to go back and finish jobs off later because the have not sent some parts or sent the wrong parts.
as for the price it varies on the amount of work needed to be done, as you say the big places quote per unit etc plus every extra you can imagine,
DH quotes based on how long he thinks the job will take, this varies depending on what jobs he has to do ie. tiling walls/floors etc.
we live in north Essex and he would charge around £800 - £1000 for fitting a kitchen this can include a bit of tiling etc.
