I have just stopped my order with screwfix, I am now buying from Wickes... Better quality units and exactly the same price!
The wickes units include doors and handles so keep that in mind when you compare prices.0 -
ikea are easy to put together and the prices aren't bad.Missysx

If you want very cheap - go for Focus. They're not brilliant but are functional.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0

focus sell gower kitchens, currently the usuall 60% off rubish but they are cheap and ok, blum metal drawer box limited unit choice but asgood as the rest in terms of construction quality, as good as mfi for sure. Also there is a channel for these through independent specialists and find the right one and they can be ever cheaper.0

I've just priced kitchen units over the last few days and my comments are:
Focus: works out virtually same price as B&Q - possibly 5% less (based on current B&Q sale+20% off)
B&Q: if you can get their website to work, it will price everything up for you.
Wickes (take home): Very limited selection of units, therefore inflexible on layout. Poor corner selection. No drawer line.
Ikea: stock check system not working properly (apparently NOTHING in stock!!). Works out expensive when you add accessories.
One tip though: Wherever you buy your units (except Wickes), go to Ikea for your handles - a fraction (25%) of B&Q and Focus prices for identical items. From (tba) Jan 07, you will be able to buy online at Ikea and get stuff delivered.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
just bought mine from wickes and the quality and prices were great for us0

I chose the Jewson takeaway range which were cheaper than B&Q at the time. I second buying door handles at Ikea.0

Freecycle.com - or local ads.
Put wanted ads in there saying you'll be happy to remove FOC. Keep what you want and chuck away the rest. Removing a kitchen will save the house owner time and money. If they're getting it fitted then the fitter will also charge them to remove the old units, then take them away and probably bin them.
With all the sales etc at this time of year stacks of people are taking out old kichens. OK some of them are being thrown out or only good for the garage, but others are good enough to go into another house with new worktops etc.
A couple of years ago I put the inlaws old kitchen into a rented property. These were quality 18mm carcasses. There were heaps of base and wall units. I reckon I save them around £200 by removing it for them.
The dark oak wasn't my first choice of doors but it was for a rented flat that will be for some time yet (long term tenant) and the old kitchen was so shot that it didn't need any tools to remove it. I simply lifted the worktop and the units collapsed themselves!
My tenant, god bless him, voluntered to phone the council to remove the old units and all the rubbish. They offer a free collection service.:T
I bought new worktops, sink, plinth and one base unit. IIRC the whole cost came to around £250. He now has a huge number of units including wall units that he didn't have before.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
I fit kitchens on my rest days and rate B&Q and Ikea quite highly."This time next year Rodney, we'll be millionaires"0
