house number on wheelie bin
I want to put my house number on my two wheelie bins but preferably for little or no cost. I've got some white gloss paint in the shed and was wondering if this would stick to the plastic surface and be reasonably rain-proof? Or is there a better alternative? If not, where can I get some cheap adhesive numbers to stick on…

Gas fire removal
We're moving house and have found a house we'd like to buy. However, it has a nasty gas fire of the 1960s type on the wall. Does anyone know how expensive this might be to remove? We have no idea of the state of the chimney or anything else. We may like to replace it with another modern gas fire but this is not definite.…

electric water heaters - 'instantaneous', 'cistern' or 'combi' for home use?
Has anyone any knowledge of how any or all of these electric water heaters perform in a domestic situation? - how does each one work and and which one is best? [I would guess the more expensive ones would be best]. Is installation relatively easy and affordable ? [it would be done by a qualified electrician] Thanks........

electric marble room heaters - any good?
I'm currently looking into the possibility of putting in electric marble or epoxy mortar radiators into a property I'm buying. They seem a good idea, smart, efficient, clean to run etc but as I can't download the file re: how they are fitted I am wondering if it is a big and/or expensive job? Has anyone any experience of…

Gas Vs Electric Fires - energy efficiancy?
Years ago my mum always said that electric fires cost far more than gas to run. I've done a search on here but can't find a thread that might have any comparisons. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction or give me some advice. Thanks, Jill

Fitting a cooker extractor hood beneath chimney
I want to fit an extractor hood above my cooker but it's situated in an alcove below a chimney access which has previously housed an aga/rayburn type stove judging by the circular hole (now filled) cut into the roof of the chimney breast, which doesn't leave me much room to play with  The alcove itself is 1.3m…

Downlights - What size to go for 20w 120v or 50w 240v
I would be really grateful if someone with electrical expertise could advise whether it is best to go for 20w 12v downlights with a transformer or 50w 240v downlights. I have bought several packs of 20w 5 piece mini downlighters but then noticed that the halogen light fitting which I am also due to replace because it is…
