Pruning a pear tree?

We have recently moved into a new house and have inherited a pear tree!
Can anyone tell me if I need to prune it or do anything with it? I don't know what type of pears to expect as we haven't been here long enough to see any yet!
Cheers.

There isn't any need to prune other than to take out any dead wood or diseased growth. If its a big tree and then I would leave the dead wood rather than risk life and limb trying to remove it.0
