If I cancel my new electricity contract with 14 days, will it revert to the previous tariff? New ten
I think I may have done something a bit silly. Me and my partner are renting a new flat and got a letter through the post from Octopus (who I assume were the previous tenant's electric company) titled 'To the new occupier.' I clicked on the link and put in the code on the letter and it came up with a price of £268 per…

Should new provider automatically detect upgraded SMETS1 meter
We had a SMETS1 electricity meter installed by SSE a few years ago, but after switching to another provider were resigned to doing manual readings again and not having daily usage breakdowns, etc. I've just tried the tool on the CAB website to identify whether the meter has been upgraded and apparently it has. However, our…

British Gas billing errors - can we get their help or attention??
Unfortunately we had sold our house awaiting completion, so I was reluctant to take out a new energy contract when the old one finished early in March, and opted to pay quarterly on receipt of bill rather than overpay on monthly DD. I have screenshots of both gas and electric meter readings (taken on the evening of 31st…

Growatt Solar batterys?
Does anybody rate Growatt solar batteries? I'm looking into getting a solar pv system with batterys, have been quoted by one company which are offering 2x6.5kw batteries as part of the package. Bit hesitant as I understand their inverters aren't great and their customer service is non existent?

British Gas free energy days
A year ago last March I was encouraged by British Gas to take out their Exclusive Fix Sep 2022 tariff. I thought it was bundled with 25 free energy days. They are not to be seen anywhere in my account and British Gas have no record of an email being sent with that information! They are denying it was sent. I have deleted…

Electricity use while away
We were away for a couple of days and, in our absence, our electricity usage is still about 18p a day above the standing charge. Any idea what this could be? It's some kind of periodic pulse.

Double charging by new provider due to historic read being provided by old provider
I have a long standing issue with my current supplier British Gas who has used a historic meter reading from my previous supplier Scottish power. This has resulted in being significantly overcharged on units I had already paid for. This has now gone on for over 7 months, I have contacted Scottish power and been advised…

Can a gas only supplier change out a gas smart meter?
My gas supplier is EDF. My electricity supplier is Octopus. My SMETS1 smart meters (gas and electricity) are Liberty. EDF cannot read my gas meter remotely. EDF wants to replace my meter. Should I just say yes and allow them to replace the existing meter or meters?

Can't have a smart meter... apparently.
My gas meter is in a tiny cupboard under the stairs, in not very accessible and on the BG website it claims if it is in the wall or in a narrow alley they won't fit one. I'm wondering how they work. I struggle to read the damn thing to take a reading as it's not easy to get to. I'd like a smart meter, mainly due to the…

Is this back billing?
So I have been having some back and forths with good old EDF. I moved out of my property in June 2018 (Even though house was empty in Jan), I had a credit paid to me by EDF. March 2019 I got a nasty letter stating that I owed them £1,200 (£600 + the £600 they paid me), after some back and forth, they said it was their…

Anyone have the Breville "Hot cup" dispenser (VKJ318) ?
Bought one of these as it seemed like you could just fill it up and boil/dispense the exact amount of water that you need, saving time and energy - less trips to the sink to fill it up for example. However, it seems like it's less efficient than my kettle and not as versatile. Regardless of which cup size I select it…

Landlord or lettings agency refusing to supply a bill
My sister rents a flat this is 100% electricty for it's energy supply from a land lord via a lettings agency. she only moved in to this property in march 2022. She was told electric would £15 a month as this was the price paid by the previous tenant. My sister has now been asked to pay £30 a month, and when she asked why…

Confusion with E7 meter
Hi All I was hoping for some advice/guidance. When I bought our current home in Dec 2020, the electric was supplied by EDF, I then transferred to Avro and when that company closed was moved to Octopus. I have always supplied the one reading to the provider - IMP-1, however, I have noticed that when Octopus take a read,…

British Gas Trying To Pull A Fast One?
The reason I say 'fast one' is that in the email it JUST refers to meters (not smart meters), so wondering if it is a crafty ploy / scare mongering - - when I click on the link it's for smart meter installation, and yet in their email: We Urgently need to replace your electricity meter: Like anything mechanical that's…

Just moved and only offered a fixed tariff, is this right?
Hi all, I have just moved home and the previous occupier was with octopus energy on a flexible tariff. We've had a letter from octopus but they are only offering us a very expensive fixed tariff!! Can they do that? And are there any energy suppliers left that will offer home movers a flexible tariff as I'm struggle to find…

Octopus latest bill-check it
According to Octopus, my smart electric meter has gone backwards for the first time. Reading on 1st April was 8273, that was their reading and mine. 2nd April, they have my reading as 8266.8, so they have credited the difference at the old price and billed me from the lower reading at the new higher price. This is copied…

To change or not to change?
I am currently with Octopus energy. I was on a fixed term until November, unfortunately I didn't realise it was coming to an end, so am now on flexible. My monthly dd has gone up from £131 to £176. They offer fixed deal for £244 OVO estimate £210/month. Should I stay on flex or is it likely that with the current situation…
