Should new provider automatically detect upgraded SMETS1 meter
We had a SMETS1 electricity meter installed by SSE a few years ago, but after switching to another provider were resigned to doing manual readings again and not having daily usage breakdowns, etc. I've just tried the tool on the CAB website to identify whether the meter has been upgraded and apparently it has. However, our current provider eonnext is still asking for manual meter readings - should they automatically detect the smart meter or do we need to tell them?

Your supplier should be able to see the relevant information on the National Database: whether they bother to look is a different matter. You can check whether your meter is connected to the DCC Network by signing up for a N3rgy.com account (use the ‘I am a consumer link’). If you can see your usage data, then contact E.oN Next.2

Cheers, looks like I'll need to contact E.oN Next anyway, as I don't have an up-to-date IHD, just the onzo device I originally got from SSE, which still works. (I need the IHD mac in order to create an account on that N3rgy.com website).0

I thought signing up for N3rgy might be useful. But because my smart meter never had an IHD it seems this is impossible.[Deleted User] said:Your supplier should be able to see the relevant information on the National Database: whether they bother to look is a different matter.
