Octopus latest bill-check it

According to Octopus, my smart electric meter has gone backwards for the first time.
Reading on 1st April was 8273, that was their reading and mine. 2nd April, they have my reading as 8266.8, so they have credited the difference at the old price and billed me from the lower reading at the new higher price.

This is copied from their email.
Thanks for sending a meter reading before April 2. You'll notice a small amount of estimated energy on this bill, because we've used an Ofgem-regulated formula to estimate how much energy you used between your reading and 00:00 April 2 (when our prices changed). This energy is charged at your lower March prices, saving you money.

Both readings are described as Smart Meter Reading. The only estimated amount is for Gas which is fine.
I know it's only a couple of quid more but don't see how it's an Ofgem-regulated formula to say my reading was lower on the 2nd than it was on the 1st.
I have emailed them.
Don't know if anyone else has had this but thought I'd put it out there, just so people are aware to check their bill.

If it is fraudulent for you to submit an incorrect reading to obtain a pecuniary advantage it must be the same for them. Raise a complaint.  The shine is certainly rubbing off the whiter than white Octopus !

I brought up with them that the last time I used gas was very late on 19 March until early hours of 20 March, no gas used was recorded by Smart Meter 17-30 March, coincidence supposed usage re-started getting recorded on 31 March which was last day of energy cap period and then more consistently for a few days after that. Nothing used or recorded since.

I was not on energy capped tariff so made no difference to my costs, was a shock to see usage on bill weeks after I last used gas.

    Answer I received was
."I'm not aware of other customers having the same issue for the period in question but it is something that tends to occur with customers with smart meters"

This was their reply yesterday to my email.

Please note that the smart read we pulled on the 1st April was 8264.30 so everything's looks fine on the account and with the meter.

I cannot believe that by the time I gave my reading later that day of 8273 (which on my bill says Smart Meter Reading), I had used 9 kWh because I've just checked the meter now and only used 13 kWh in 5 days since submitting my reading on 1st May.
    I sent another email yesterday.

At what time of the day did you read the meter? Octopus only ‘pulls’ data from the meter once per day - usually in the early hours of the morning.

Bear in mind, you are not paying for 9kWh: any cost difference will be the difference in unit prices times 9. I think that you will find that the difference is less than a couple of £s.

I was once overcharged on a transfer of supply by just over £70. The actual difference in cost between the two tariffs was £2.34.

If it was 21p/kWh and it's now 28p/kWh, the difference is about 54p.
