Check your latest bills, assuming you are on a standard direct debit they would typically assume your yearly bill will be £3600, so £300 per month.
What does it say your expected usage is?

Electric only? E7? What was it before ££, And what is your yearly kwh? Are you in Debt or credit?

To help, we would need to know what the £300 covers. Electricity only or gas and electricity?

What are your latest rates per kw/h on electricity/gas and what are the daily standing charges?
Do you know what your annual kWh usage is for electricity/gas?
Is there any existing credit or debit left on the account?

Typically the suppliers will set a DD based on annual consumption. So if they have estimated your annual usage correctly then in the summer months you tend to build up a credit, which gets eaten away through the winter.
Also, if your account is in debt or credit, they should adjust the DD to take account of this.

You say the" new bill "   is this a quarterly pay on receipt bill or their estimate of a DD associated with a new fix?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

If you can show us (suitably redacted) details from your latest statement, and ideally one from about a year ago, people may be able to offer you helpful advice.
