How much more expensive in winter?
Trying to do a bit of planning with utilities. Gas and elec with first utility. Any ideas of a rough % difference between charges and DD over the winter months? At the moment DD is £55 and charges for last month where £66 (however lots of adjustment from previous bills for actually submitting a meter reading for the first…

Fixed rate ending - right of extension if switching?
Sorry if I've got this wrong as I cannot find anything to back it up, but I seem to recall hearing in the past that when your fixed rate tariff is coming to an end, in addition to your supplier notifying you many weeks in advance and there being no switching penalty in the final 6 or 7 weeks, there is also an additional…

My daughter has moved into a block of flats which sewage system is adjoined to five other blocks before adjoining the main sewer system on a private piece of land. In 2010/2011 the government deemed that these sewage systems if more than one block is on the same sytem should…

Switching twice in a short period?
Hi all, Further to the discussions with regards to the British Gas Collective switch ending on 28th February I'm in two minds the same as many others here. Iresa for me comes out about £30 cheaper than the next cheaper which is Co-op and doesn't have any exit fees. If I was to commence a switch now with them, maybe with a…

Home Insulation Survey
Hi, Can anyone advise on how I would go about getting a home insulation survey? I would like to understand how well my house is insulated and what steps could be taken to improve it. Can anyone recommend a company that would do this? Presumably there is a cost involved, if so does anyone know roughly how much this would…

Prepayment meter installed
Hello, I'm hoping someone can give me some advice. I'll try and keep this as brief as possible. I live in a small two up two down house, 1 bedroom and one bathroom. I have a modern boiler and am not in an awful lot, when I am I only have my computer on, so I don't use a lot of electricity. I moved in almost a year ago in…

Should I swap my Economy7 meter for a new smart meter?
Hi all. I bought a house a few years ago and stripped out the old storage heaters and now have gas fired central heating and hot water via combi boiler. I'm currently signed up to Collective Fix Oct 2017for both my gas and electricity through British Gas. As I'm not on a 7/10 tariff, is there any downside to getting my…

Has anyone been scammed by meter reading engineers? I think I have.
Hi all, I'm trying to search for cases of people who have been scammed by "meter reading engineers". Hear me out, because I think something strange is going on. In November Utilita (my current provider) sent me a letter telling me they were sorry I'm leaving. I was confused, I didn't sign no contract or agree to a switch.…

No tariff ending notification letter?
It might just be another energy supplier mess somewhere which is something I'm used to. It took British Gas ages to get me onboard so might be the reason I haven't yet received the letter I was due 42-49 days before my tariff ended. I believed that's an OFGEM rule I should have had that and I think it's 41 days now. Should…

Flipper vs Powershop
Which is likely to be cheapest, or is it largely guesswork? Flipper will automatically put you on the cheapest tariff, but they charge a fee, obviously you cannot predict the future cost. Powershop give you a discout for pre-paying, it does seem to be pretty cheap but not compared vs all suppliers. Any ideas?

E:On Key Meter Tariff Change - Disgrace !!!
I changed my pay as you go key meter tariff on their website 3 days ago back to the their "peak" / "off peak" tariff, as last week they had automatically changed me to a "single rate" without telling me, and without my permission ! The website stated that this had been changed successfully. 3 days later, my meter has still…

NPower back billing
NPower Back Billing - I had a massive dispute with NPower at our old house. They supplied gas and electric. I never got a bill from them, even though I was paying £90 per month, which more than covered both gas and electric (we spend about 6 months a year out of the country) I ended up with an additional bill of just under…

MSE Big Energy Switch Event 6
Hi All, Does anyone know when the next Big Energy Switch event might be planned? I joined last year, so I'm not sure how regularly they happen and the reminder email is a little vague as to when the next event is due. I missed the last one unfortunately as I missed the email somehow (I didn't realise until just searching…

Is there a way for me
Hi. Is there a way for me to chain multiple, folding, portable solar panels together in order to draw more power? Or I have to move to a big watt solar power panel. Is there a simple way to link two portable panels together to charge a single power bank, or am I making this more complicated than it needs to be? I found the…

Switching supplier with prepayment meter
Hello, Am asking this for a friend- they are currently on British standard rate for their electricity as their deal came to an end last month. She has an electric prepayment meter which she tops up via a card at the shop. She has asked me to help her switch supplier to get a better deal (she is not very tech savvy). She…

New Boiler
Hi there, I'm looking to get a rough ball park figure for upgrading the central heating system. The house in question is a 3 bed end terrace. The current central heating is being provided by a back boiler unit (i think) with an immersion heater in the spare bedroom and cold water tanks in the attic. How much roughly would…
