Should I swap my Economy7 meter for a new smart meter?

Hi all.
I bought a house a few years ago and stripped out the old storage heaters and now have gas fired central heating and hot water via combi boiler.
I'm currently signed up to Collective Fix Oct 2017for both my gas and electricity through British Gas.
As I'm not on a 7/10 tariff, is there any downside to getting my meter replaced with a shiney new smart meter?
Should I change supplier next year will my meter still be smart or would it be tied to BG?
Cheers for any advice
(apologies if this has been brought up berfore, I did look through smart meter threads but couldn't find an answer)

You may find that you will get your existing economy 7 meter (if that is what you have) replaced by an economy 7 smart meter, but it won't be a problem if the supplier is already combining the day and night readings for a single rate tariff.
Until suppliers fit SMETS2 standard smart meters (possibly later this year), they will revert to being dumb if you switch supplier.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Wait for the 'SMETs v2' meters later this year. A meter installed now probably* won't be transferable and will just revert to 'dumb' meters.
*I've heard of some instances of a current smart meter transfering but I don't think BG ones do.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). Octopus Flux0
