Hi all,

Further to the discussions with regards to the British Gas Collective switch ending on 28th February I'm in two minds the same as many others here.

Iresa for me comes out about £30 cheaper than the next cheaper which is Co-op and doesn't have any exit fees.

If I was to commence a switch now with them, maybe with a supply start date of 1st March when the BG fix ends, then would there be a nightmare if I was to take on one of the collective switches proposed in February?

Big question: Is it worth securing the cheap rate with Iresa now just to be on the safe side or have faith one of the collective switches will be a better option?

Basically, has anyone done that, switched to a supplier with no exit fees (or even one that does) and then switch again maybe only a month later?

Have a look at Martin's Cheap Energy Club.

It is not MSE you want to ask, you need Mystic Meg. He who procrastinates is lost; a bird in the hand .......... etc.

You are very much on your own. Remember, a lot of us who post here switched many times last year to secure better deals. If E.oN is releasing more expensive tariffs, then expect others to follow. Six weeks is a long time in today's volatile markets.

Similar position and figures from the uSwitch iOS app: I'm on Peterborough Energy / OVO fixed which comes to an end on 18 Feb 2017 and I'll be transferred to the standard variable tariff if I don't switch. The maximum I can save over the next 12 months is £42.16 with Green Energy variable and Iresa fixed for 12 months saving £39.67p with other variable tariffs saving much the same give or take a few pennies. None of those at the top of the list have an early exit fee.

It's tempting to switch for such a small saving and then switch again soon but I'm taking the gamble that the projected price increases in March won't happen or a collective switch will provide better savings. So I'm staying where I am but keeping an eye on it.

Be extremely careful when you use the word savings as you may well find that you are paying a lot more AND saving at the same time.

Check the cost of 12 months on your present tariff with 12 months on a new tariff and you will see what I mean. Electricity prices have risen so it is unlikely that you will not end up paying more.

That's good going, I guess it's all down to the new supplier to find out the current one etc. and transfer you over anyway so if I'm in transition they should be able to identify who I'm with.

The collective fixes all seem to be proposing their offers next month so might aim to switch supply on 1st March at least to avoid switching to the standard tariff. It may even be the case that all collective switches work out more than Iresa...
