British gas help please
Hi, wonder if anyone can help me please? Have just got my latest bill from British gas and it is a lot higher than previous years, even if you take into account of the price increases, it's still a big jump. But forgetting the actual costs I've looked at the actual useage. My online a/c says we used the following... 1 Jan…

Getting a meter moved slightly the cheapest way
Hello board, I want to have an electricity meter in my home moved slightly (around a foot or so), and I'm wondering the cheapest possible way of getting this done. There are a few factors at play here, the first is that it is currently an Economy 7 dual rate meter, but I have recently converted from electric central…

Consumer Care Direct
Has anybody had experience with Consumer Care Direct? On the surface, it seems the financial savings they say can be gleaned from membership of their club seem too good to be true. Are they safe and reliable, after all, forking out £199 for membership does seem a mite high. Appreciate any feedback anybody can give. Cheers…

Business customer
How do I know if I'm being overcharged as a business customer, there's loads of ways for residential customers. I had a firm contact me about claiming back the overpayment, but wanted to charge me £325 to do it! We run a pub so our residential and business are on the same meter. Any ideas?

Help - Can't say No to Switching
Hi, I hope someone here can help me. My elderly Mum, who is happily living independently, just cannot say "no" to any offer to switch utility providers. Whether it be by phone or at the local shops, any promise of discounts, savings or vouchers and she is happy to sign up. She is unable to descern whether what is being…

NPower - almost doubled my bill and in arrears
In December last year (2012) Npower sent me a notice saying my current contract had ended and they were transferring me to a new tariff. I was happy with this because the new tariff was only £3 more expensive than my the previous one. All of thier prices have been based on estimated read as opposed to actual reads; they…

Rip off British Gas
I am currently studying at university in Southampton when I am not in my 4 bed detached house in Essex I leave my gas completely off and when I am there (a few weekends and Christmas the heating/hot water is on a timer for once a day.) Heat whole house or one room?
We have a lodger who seems to "advance" our heating all the time he is in which is all the time except mon-fri 9-5. This heats the whole house pointlessly as we are often out and about and he sits in his room. I can't work out if its cheaper to heat the whole house this way (gas central heating) or to ask hm to use his…

How long to move Utilities to new company
Npower have just written to us indicating that our fixed tariff comes to an end of 21 May 2013, at which point we'll be moved off Go Fix 11 and onto Go Save S. I presume this will leave us worse off and will therefore need to switch. How long does it take from first contacting the new company we want to use (after we've…

Elec board complaint - offered goodwill compensation & no acceptance of liability
I recently sent a letter of complaint to my electricity board (not supplier) and have received an apology for inconvenience and a small offer of compensation. The cheque is in the post. I want to reply as I am not happy with their written response and they deny any liability. If I receive their cheque is this acceptance of…

Retrieving credit balance from EON
Does anyone know if it is EON's policy to not refund your credit balance? We have been told we cannot have the £247 we are in credit by. I know other people who have been able to get their money back but this was sometime ago. If we are in credit now the winter has gone, we will be in more credit after the summer.

Year old debt on gas meter. Unwittingly being paid by subsequent tennants.
Having just rented a room in a shared house (april 2013) I was the first person to feed the gas meter for some time. here's why. £20 returned £9 in credit which was burned in less than 48hrs of low usage. (£2/hr to heat a 3-bed terrace with a modern boiler plus a further £3 for debt the next day) The next step was to…
