How long to move Utilities to new company
Options
Npower have just written to us indicating that our fixed tariff comes to an end of 21 May 2013, at which point we'll be moved off Go Fix 11 and onto Go Save S.
I presume this will leave us worse off and will therefore need to switch.
How long does it take from first contacting the new company we want to use (after we've done the price comparison searches) to the gas/electric transferring over to them?
We're off on holiday from Sunday 14 April to Sunday 28 April and would prefer to do all fo this once we're back but we don't want a 5 week process which would mean 2-ish weeks of Go Save S.
Equally, if we were to initiate the process today, could we agree with the new energy company NOT to transfer us over until 21 May 2013 (or will they just transfer us as soon as they can)? If yes, then what issues would us being away for 2 weeks cause us with signing paperwork etc?

Don't forget to factor in the £105/110 dual fuel annual bonus. The end of the tariff is not necessarily the anniversary of your joining.
As we (touch wood) are exiting winter and heating is coming off the £8.66 for a month or three extra at June consumption may well be much larger than any difference in price (plus remember you lose not just £8.66 for one or two months - it is for the entire period not yet credited.)
So double-check the date your gas and electricity was transferred to npower (gas is usually later) and consider waiting for that anniversary.
And note that, no, you can not ask suppliers to switch on a specific date - they have several iterations amongst themselves to resolve things that you are not involved in and the date they switch is the date they switch (seperately for each fuel).0 -
Switching takes 4 - 6 weeks minimum usually.

You'll have to wait until 28/4, or do it while you're away.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
