Thermostat Temp
Im just wondering is there an 'ideal' temperature I should set my thermastat too as me and the OH are always "arguing" about it - he's always cold. Originally we had it set to 21 which was ridiculous as it never got above 19 so the heating was always on, I have set this to 18 now, realistically is it wise to set it any…

heavy going, choosing supplier
Why is it so difficult to choose a supplier? Am currently on the EON standard tarrif, and although a year ago it was competitive, obviously the !!!!!!s don't like to make it easy to retain a good deal. So, even though Scottish Power online deals seem to be top of the list, is it worthwhile changing? eon haven't announced…

Problem with British Gas...advice needed
Hi All, I've been with BG dual fuel for a few years now but on the 10th November I used the uswitch service to change to EDF as their rates were much better. I hadn't had any communication from EDF so about a week ago I called uswitch customer services for advice. They said that EDF had computer problems and that they lost…

What is the most economical way to run my combination boiler? The temp range for my Patterson boiler is: Heating 25-80 degrees Water 30-70 degrees Am I better off setting my heating to a high setting say 80 degrees meaning it will reach the thermstat setting sooner or have it at say 60 degrees but it takes longer to reach…

nPower price increase Jan 2011
I am totally, totally incenced with the recent notification and publicity that nPower have put out. The press inform us that the price rise equates to 5% (ish), but in reality, if you've elected to join a lower-rated tariff like me (Sign on-line 18), the true increase of the rise is 26.4% amounting to around £250 in my own…

Energysmart
Well on Saturday I had one of the devices delivered and duly connected it up etc. Right now I'm using 4p/hr (401 Watts), however I'm hard pushed to see much below 200W , using about 70p per day in electric, which is still less than the monthly DD , obviously the fridge has to stay on, but I can't see much in the way of…

British Gas prepayment meter (gas) - £7 a day?
To be fair it has been a cold winter and higher boiler setting = more gas used. But something just seems wrong here. I had reckoned that, over the last 5 years, £25 slapped on the gas on Sunday (2 days ago) should last until at least Boxing Day. It *had* slipped into Emergency Credit and had dropped to about £2.50 or…

Dreaded Prepay meter
Hi, we are currently using a prepay gas meter in our house, and its taking a silly amount of money off us (we put £10 on 2 days ago and there is only £4 left now and we all work so aren't in from 9 to 5!) and have been monitoring our usage, which has been roughly 1 hr in the morning and an hour or 2 in the evening.…

Reading a dial meter: which instructions are right??
We have a dial meter for electricity and I have always found it problematic. Today I had to submit a reading to a new site: www.myreading.net, and realised their instructions, published below, are completely different from the usual ones. I also found the other type of instructions vary slightly but the two I am publishing…

Gas Fire or Central Heating?
Hi Wondered if somebody could help me and reassure my sister. My younger sister lives alone in a small flat, it has gas central heating and a small gas fire. She is struggling with bills and is worried about her gas useage. She asked me if it would be cheaper to have the central heating on to heat the flat or use the gas…
