Prepayment meter with 2 cards
Options
Hi all, just a quick question. I am in a rented house and have just changed providers of my gas and electric as i do often. I now have 2 gas top-up cards, one for Scottish power and one for Eon. I have used the new Eon card for a month now but yesterday i picked up the old card and managed to top that up and credit the meter. So, can i just keep using which ever one is cheapest? Cheers, Steve.

If you supplier is Eon and you used the SPOW card, the money will go to SPOW not Eon. WHen Eon do you annual statement they will realise you have used more gas than you have paid for. This may result in them suspecting you have bought a 'dodgy card' to fiddle the system.
Keep the receipt for the purchase on the wrong card and phone your current supplier to expaplin what you have done.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Hi Steve
As spiro says, payments made using the old card will go to Scottish Power. This will show as an imbalance on your account with E.ON and will eventually lead to a statement being issued saying you are in debt.
However, there is an industry wide process in place to identify this type of misdirected payment and transfer it back to the correct supplier/account.
I would follow spiro's excellent advice and keep the receipt from the old card. Send us a copy and we can start the ball rolling to return the payment to the correct account.
Going forward, whilst we continue to supply your energy, you should only use our card. Using other payment cards will lead to future discrepancies.
Hope this answers your question Steve. Let me know if you need any more info as will be happy to help.
