Does this seem like reasonable gas usage for a pilot light?
Hi, I worked out that my boiler pilot light uses about half a unit a day, which I think works out to about 6kwh. The boiler is quite old and probably not terribly efficient. But does this figure seem too high? I'm living in a rental property so I can't change the boiler but I was curious if the flame is turned up too high…

Southern electric - £40 a week on prepayment :(

Gas is costing me £40 a week ( there is a £6 debt coming off it every week). Im a single parent, my child is 2 and we live on £100 a week, so the gas and electric are taking half of my weekly money. Am I missing something?
As mentioned on a previous post, I am currently on EON fixonline V3 which is coming to an end on wednesday One of the results that offered the most saving was EDF's online v7 plan but I posted that I was tempted by their fixed until 2015 offer. My current prices are : Electric : 24.234p/kWh and then 10.259p/kWh Gas: 6.525…

Hi all, I need some advice! My friend has just moved out of home into a studio flat (it's in a house split into 8 studios, each has a different landlord). Everything runs on electricity (shower, cooker, heating), which is on a prepayment meter, apart from the gas boiler which provides hot water for the bath and sink. The…

I thought replacing an old boiler would save me money not cost more
I had a very ancient Vulcan continental that packed up. Well, we had it replaced for what was going to be a standard condenser but the plumber found that our heating system was plumbed into the hot water cylinder tank which imploded when they drained it. Change of plan and much more work they kindly fitted us a heatline…

Elect cost of running gas boiler?
Hi, I've just put my usual monthly gas & electric meter readings in and I noticed that my electric usage has doubled in this month. This is really strange because nothing has changed in my usage apart from probably using the gas c/h more so this usage would appear to be from running the gas boiler. Does this sound right,…

Ex left large gas and electric debt
I intend to move into a property that my ex wife lived in but there is, as far as I am aware very large debts on both the gas and electric. e.on Age UK tariff - not competitive?
I have just done the uswitch & Moneysupermarket comparisons for mother's electricity supply (she doesn't have gas). I'm ready to switch her to Scottish Power online energy 11, but she has told me that her neighbours have just switched to E.on Age UK, as advised by Age UK. Her friend has done the same, and claims it's…

Small Business on a sub-meter: moving supplier?
I'm sorry if this is in the wrong area - it's my first post. I'm in a Council-owned mill and our electricity is provided on a sub-meter from their supply. I have 4,000 sqft of space and run a 24 x 7 x 365 operation. Our electricity usage is substantial (38k units peak, 27k units off-peak) per year and I think I'm being…

British Gas late in boiler check
We have insurance with British Gas to cover our boiler and all central heating. This includes one boiler service each year. Every year they get later and later. It used to be done in July, now it's nearly December and they haven't contacted us yet. If they do this with everyone they must be saving a fortune in labour…

cheapest way to heat house
I know using GCH is the most efficient, but since I live alone, I dont need the whole house heated. So I was wondering, would it be cheaper for me to use an electric heater in the room I am in, or still stick with the GCH? Or maybe use the GCH for background heating and combine it with the electric?

Economy 7 Problem
Hi The house that we live in already had economy 7 installed so we have just carried on with it as it is. Today I noticed that the hot water tank, and upstairs storage heaters have been on all day. They are linked to the economy 7 so should have just turned themselves off this morning. I'm assuming they are on as the…
