Elect cost of running gas boiler?

Hi,
I've just put my usual monthly gas & electric meter readings in and I noticed that my electric usage has doubled in this month. This is really strange because nothing has changed in my usage apart from probably using the gas c/h more so this usage would appear to be from running the gas boiler.

Does this sound right, is it expensive electicity wise to have the heating on or could something be wrong with the boiler pump? The heating is working fine btw.

Thanks

I believe that although you may be using more GAS the central heating uses an electric water pump to pump the water round the system
Someone please tell me what money is

The clocks have gone back, the lights have been on longer as the evenings get darker. Running a gas CH boiler cannot double your electrcity consumption unless it is tiny in the first place. How many extra kWh are we talking about per day?

sorry to hijack the Op's thread but mine for example has gone from an average of 94kwh in a month to now at 147kwh, can having the lights on for an extra hour or so earlier every day really increase it by this much? - heating definitely has been on a hell of a lot more and thats the only difference in our house but that's gas.

Just out of curiosity I looked up my boiler's power consumption in the manual-it gives a maximum of 150W. That's for a 12 year old combi, no doubt a modern condensing boiler is less power hungry.
So it's probably no more than the cost of leaving a light or two on.
charlie, 5 x 100W lights on for an additional 3 hours a day is going to use an extra 1.5kWh per day, or 45kWh per month. Because your base usage is so low, the increase is a high percentage. But since your 'new' annual consumption (1,764 kWh) is only about half of the national average for a 3 b/r house with gas CH and DHW, I shouldn't worry about it too much.

Haha well in reality our energy bulbs only use 6w and only 1 of those is on for any longer during the day than before, but yeah our usage is very small anyway so I wont worry about it too much...I expect I have probably been using my laptop more than before...What is DHW by the way?
