Hi I don't know whats best to do. We have always put heating on timer switch. 6.50 - 8 in the morning and 4.30 - 9pm. With the odd boost button for 1hr when its cold. Is this better than keeoing it on all the time but just turning the thermostat up and down.. We have it on at 18degrees at present. Thank you

Rip off DDR set up for EON electricity
I am on Eon standard tariff, paying by cheque quarterly. I want to move to saver tariff with a DDR. This gives a 6% reduction on my current charges. OK so far. DDR set up page, the monthly total I will be 'charged' for EON over 2 yrs and my usage is well established and consistent. Why is this and is it legal. Why should I…

Prepaid Gas and Electric - new user
Hi there I moved into my new home on Wednesday 24th Nov and there is a prepayment meter for the gas and electric. I've already spent £10 on electric (basic use of lights, one shower a day, etc) and £15 on gas (only central heating for about 6 hours a day, no use of fire, not much hot water and no cooking on the hob) What…

Is this a lot of electric?
Ive just calculated our electric usage for the last three months and it is 336KWH, Im just curious if this sounds about average/high etc for a 2 bed flat with two occupants. My laptop runs off the mains (battery dead) and I use it the majority of the day. We have an electric oven and hob which we use every day. Washing…

Why does my house use so much electricity?
I don't even know where to begin here - I moved into my new house on the 1st Oct 2010. The house is a 3 bedroom 16th centrury house - very old - all electric. We have 3 storage heaters, one in bedroom, one living room and one in the kitchen. There are two thermostat radiators in the smaller bedrooms, one in a hallway and…

AgeUK. Fuel costs.
Just got a booklet from them. Interesting reading who and how they help the 60+ groups. They state that' they have successfully campaigned for the government to introduce mandatory social tariffs so people on a low income will be automatically offered the lowest prices for our fuel'. Does anyone know anything about this, I…

Best Gas Hob
Our gas hob, a Fisher Paykel five burner has never provided enough power in my opinion. Does anyone know if the output can be increased? The correct jets are fitted but a saucepan takes ages to heat up. Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good high output large gas hob? Thanks.

As long as a piece of string!!
I know this question is as long as a piece of string but just want to be given a rough guide. My son has been looking at a two bedroomed flat, the current supplier is Scottish Power but the landlady seems reluctant to give an estimate of the electric bill. Electric convector heaters in three rooms, power shower,…

E.on, going from dual fuel to electricity only?
I am currently on E.on's dual fuel FixOnline8 and may be moving to a house that does not have gas. If I remain with Eon will I still have to pay a termination charge for ending my gas supply? The new house is currently with another supplier but of course if E.on is cheaper I will remain with E.on.

best time to switch
I can't understand why immediately a utility company announces a big price rise all its customers don't switch to another company. That would reduce the competition a bit if one or two of them where put to the sword. Because in true competition there has to be some losers. By maintaining too many competitive companies we…

British gas iPhone app
Just downloaded this (it's free) and it's great! You can use it to submit meter readings and it tells you your consumption since your last reading (especially helpful for gas because I've got one measured in cubic feet and I can never work it out properly!) It shows that in Nov I used: 885 kWh of gas 238 kWh of elec Quite…

Student tenants - Switching gas supplier, fixed contract?
Hi, We're going to change to a cheaper gas supplier soon - npower Sign Online 20 plan is the one uSwitch recommends is cheapest. We're students and will be leaving the property in July 2011. npower Sign Online 20 plan t&t says: Would we be "cancelling" it when we move out? Or could be simply let them know we're moving out…

Advice/Info on Eon Heatwise Tarriff (very long and complex)
I am shortly moving into a new place which has storage heaters. Because I was decorating I stayed over there one night and had all the four storage heaters set on input 7 and output 4 - it's all a bit trial and error right now. Anyhow I was astonished how warm it was in the evening (and even during the night) as I heard…

british gas estimated bills
I get ny bills online so I read the meters myself and submitted the readings online within a few days of the bill date. Then I get a message thanking me but saying only that this will be taken into account for future bills, I won't actually get a revised bill. As i have used more than they estimated and their charges are…

Dual fuel loop hole early termination fee
I've left EDF to go to Eon after getting a letter telling me about price rises. (Not using the links that "help Martins website". I switched using Quidco, massively helping MY bank account, NOT Martins) Much as the article in MSE below. The only problem is that I've now been hit with a £25 "online saver version 3 dual fuel…

Hi, In our house we have a pre payment electricity meter which was here from the previous owner. We want to change to a monthly direct debit but the supplier is saying we need to pay £50 just to get it changed? Stop BG reverting to standard tariff while we switch?
We had an email the other day from British Gas (we were on a Websaver dual fuel tariff) saying: "Your WebSaver 4 energy tariff is coming to an end on 10 December 2010. You don’t need to do anything as we’ll automatically transfer you to our new standard tariff prices" and pointing out that we could switch to WebSaver 10.…
