Gas Meter Upgrade
We have had a granny annexe built which has it's own central heating boiler and gas fire. Our builders advised that our gas meter may need to be upgraded as a result of the modest additional demand. We approached our gas/electricity provider who quoted £800 to do this - an element of this was for the meter and an element…

Pre-Pay Meter Overcharges-
Customers who use pre-payment meters have overpaid the energy companies nearly half a billion pounds over the past three years, it is being claimed. The National Housing Federation (NHF) made the calculation using figures from Ofgem, the energy regulator. It says higher charges paid by metered customers are in breach of EU…

British Gas Pricing
Have discovered British Gas's new Duo Fuel websaver 3, which they state are their cheapest duo fuel prices, is incorrect. I was on websaver 2 and having changed to websaver 3 discovered I am paying more for my gas and a little less for my electricity. The overall effect is an increase per annum which shows British Gas is…

New Smart Meters - good idea gone wrong ?
New smart meters are vulnerable to abuse by hackers. They can be reset remotely in the same way a worm can take over your computer. If your utility company wants to install one ask if the data being transmitted is encrypted and does it have a built in authentication protocol. The worst case scenario is that you can be…

faulty electricity meter...
Hi, I had my old electricity meter changed about 3 months ago to one of these so-called "state of the art" electronic ones. Yesterday I recieved a bill that was about 4 times the normal amount, and stating that I'm suddenly £400 odd in arrears - even though I use a budget scheme payment card and have never fallen behind.…

Under estimated EDF bill
I've just read my meters and realised that my EDF bills are out by 3000 odd units meaning we owe them a further £500ish. This means we've used 6600 units over 11 months, living in a 2 bed flat. We're not in in the day, have no tumble dryer, no bath, no games consoles etc but do have storage heaters and no gas so hot water…

There are 3 of us (me partner and a 6 year old) living in a extended 3 bed detatched house with 1 downstairs loo, one bathroom and an en suite shower room. I thought we were being quoted for a combi but our plumber has recommended a sytem boiler…

Gas usage cost
There are some handy meters available in the shops for measuring electricity usage which are useful for working out the cost of running various appliances. Is there an easy way of working out the cost of gas consumption? For example I have a large Vaillant combi-boiler about 19 years old which delivers a good flow of hot…

Another British Gas Nightmare
Hi guys, Due to various problems with British Gas last year we left them and joined Souther Electric. We since received a whopping bill and disputed the initial reading given by BG to SE. We have since had two emails from BG saying our bill is ready. When we first called up we were told that it was a clerical error (they…

British Gas - Domestic and Business Rates
Hello everyone. I have a bit of a problem with my gas bill. Basically, at my old property, we were incorrectly invoiced for gas as a business customer. British Gas are aware of this and have sent another invoice, minus daily business charge (based on number of days, not usage). This still leaves us paying for gas at 5.660p…

Is the return of the 'price of gas linked to price of oil' theory/excuse imminent?
The energy industry have been very quiet regarding this oft-peddled theory whilst the price of oil has been hitting the buffers. I note the price of crude is on the rise again. Any guesses as to who will be first to put up their gas prices and re-visit this theory/excuse?

Solar PV-selling electricity back to the grid
Hi I'm trying to find out the best rate available from the energy companies for buying the electricity I export to the grid from my soon-to-be-installed solar panels. This information is not readily available on the websites and I'm having to contact them all individually to get the details. Has anyone else done this…
